The Islamic rock inscriptions are written in what is called the Old Hijazi script, which was the Arabic script used during the early Muslim period, before it was reformed to include diacritics under the Abbasids. This has led to people online speculating they were carved into rock during the Rashidun period. Do you believe this is the case? What purpose could they have served?
