I rust-blued my Opinel.
Mainly needed a test piece to exercise with rust bluing, turned out pretty nice. N8.

This is on an Opinel XC90 carbon steel, using it as practice for then bluing a Walther PPK.
Using backyard ballistics solutions, steel polished to 1000 grits, cleaned with hot soapy water and degreased with 99% isopropyl alcohol using clean clean gloves, then rusting solution applied with a small veil, without soaking the piece. Rusting takes place in a wet chamber made by a closed plastic bin with a glass of hot water inside, ~80% humidity at 27 degrees celsius, left in for 2/3 hours.
Any idea why those long streaks are happening? It doesn’t seem to develop a clear rust patina but mostly those long black streaks, no idea why. I would exclude contamination, that’s what I’ve been most careful about.
Thanks
Hello, I need help identifying some markings on my Tula 91/30 PU.
First pic is the right side of the barrel shank, I know that the 2330 is the Italian proofing catalog number for the 91/30, but the remaining two I can’t find out what they are.
Next on the stock there is this “R” engraved, and also “НЛ**”** or “ИЛ”, and a “M” as well. No clue at all on these ones.
Is the last pic the steel lot used to make the barrel?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Hello,
I’ve recently bought this Tula 91/30 PU, which seems to be an original PU refurbished and with force-matched pieces (bolt, stock,…).
What can you tell me about the markings, the general state of the rifle, and maybe if it’s possible to reconstruct its path? This is my first Mosin and I’m still learning about them.
Hell of a shot too, 2.2 MOA at 100 meters for 20 rounds group.
I WILL POST THE OTHER PICTURES IN A SECOND POST!!!
Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Between the stock and receiver, quite a big gap. Is this normal? If not how do I solve it? Thanks
Ho un parente (zio) che risulta residente in una casa che vuole mettere in locazione. Lo può fare? Poi lui non vivrebbe effettivamente nell’appartamento ma in un’altra casa (che gli affitterei per una cifra simbolica).
Grazie.
Hello,
I’m looking into buying my first Mosin 91/30 PU, and I’be found these two offers online, they are from gun stores in Italy, where I live, and I have the chance to go there and take a look in person.
This is the first one, listed at €1350
https://www.armeriafrigerio.com/armeria/mosin-nagant-sniper-ottica-pu/
And this is the second, at €950
https://armeriadegradi.com/prodotto/mosin-nagant-sniper-91-30-calibro-7-62x54r/
A part from the €400 difference, which I don’t understand, what do you guys think? Do they look like original PUs to you? Why is the Izhevsk one €400 less than the Tula? The stock seems in slightly better condition in the Tula, but I don’t think it’s only that.
Also, if I go to inspect them in person, what should I look for, except for the obvious mechanics and bore conditions?
Pardon my ignorance, never bought a Mosin before. And thanks in advance.
Hello!
I’ve stumbled upon this Mosin 91/30 with a sniper scope, and I was wondering if it’s an original PU - and if I should pay the related price - or a normal 91/30 with a scope that has been added later. The only picture I have is this one, can someone help me identify it please?
Thanks!!
Hello,
last month I planted these peach trees, which seems to have lost some flowers and leaves, even if when I bought it it only had a few on. I purchased it anyway because it was the last one.
In the second picture you can see a black dot on its log, is it normal? I gave it some ash as a fertilizer just in case.
In the last picture you can see his brother, which looks much healthier.
Is there something wrong with it? Or something I can do?
Thanks!!
Grazie!
