How to keep these ducts from squeaking while people walk upstairs?

The ducts squeak pretty badly when (larger) people walk upstairs. Its driving me insane since my work from home office is down here.

I'd like to add rubber between the duct and the joists, but that would be a huge pain, especially since I can't really access the top of the inner one. Would lowering the ducts a fraction of an inch be a bad idea? If not, I'm adding rockwool and sound absorption panels.

How do I know if I'm ready? Will I ever know?

Taking the test on Sept 5. I'm spending at least an hour every day re-doing Slay the PE practice problems and tests, with a lot of focus on the problems I get wrong.

So like a real engineer, I made a pivot table with results of every practice test over the past month

Had fiber Internet installed. They must have used that special "above ground" cable

Also, why don't they use any of the buried conduit?

Not pictured: the box is loose and only screwed into the siding

EDIT! I was told the job is complete. There is a stretch of about 15 feet of cable that IS buried. Tech support says the installer messed up big time. The multiple lines of conduit, labelled with the companies name, terminate near the utility box.

If someone does half a job with the plan to finish it later, that must be communicated with the customer.

SoFi escrow has been a pain

I’ve been trying to convince SoFi escrow that we are overpaying them. it’s not a huge deal because we get whatever is leftover paid back to us after our tax bill is paid. Last year I got a refund of around $2,500, but they only lowered my monthly payment by $30. The math there ain’t mathing.

Anyways, they never paid our tax bill that was due in June, and the county is racking up the late charges. The AI chat bot was useless, but once I started insulting it I finally got (what I assumed to be) a human, who gave me a link to a document that would help. the document said to call my mortgage provider, but didn’t offer anything else or even a phone number.

I called SoFi, they transferred me to the tax department, and they gave me a link to taxupload.com I highly suggest that you go to that site and see for yourself about how little confidence I now have in where I sent my tax bill. Nothing on the site suggests that it is related to SoFi. I may have to pay my own tax bill and go after SoFi to pay me back.

The worst part is that if I want to get away from them, I’ll have to refinance my mortgage.

Irrigation pipe (not sprinkler) repair companies?

I'm asking for a family member. They have a buried irrigation line on their property that has a leak. No idea if it is concrete, metal, or plastic, but we are talking a larger pipe that supplies multiple homes. It actually doesn't supply water to their house, but a water rights lawyer says that in Idaho it is up to the property owner to repair it.

They've called the people over water distribution, and nobody knows any information on it, where it goes, or where valves are to shut it off.

Any recommendations on who to call for that? He says he hasn't had much luck, so I thought I would check here. One guy quoted $3k just to dig the hole and look at it.

Unhinged coworker loudly playing music in the office

A guy close to my cubicle is constantly playing cheesy religious music loudly over speakers at his cubicle, even when he isn’t there. He recently added a cuckoo clock that chimes every hour. we turn things down whenever he leaves, but it’s getting worse.

He is an extremely violent person, and he says he needs the music to calm him down. Every day he tells stories during lunch that always involve a fist fight, pulling a gun on a coworker, getting banned from yet another jacuzzi store, choking out a deer, etc.

So, why not ask him to keep it down? 1: I don’t want to be next on his list. 2: He is best friends with the manager. 3: His wife recently left him (shocker!), which has made his demeanor less pleasant than usual. 4: Just let me be unhappy, it’s all I got.

What kept me going is that he was planning on retiring this year, but the whole divorce thing is messing that up, which was a real bummer to me and my coworkers.

Just a reminder that you can buy fly box foam and make your own heirloom fly boxes

Wife: "is that for the kids?"
