For fun: what’s the worst carrier you’ve had to politely talk a friend out of buying

I just offered to give a pregnant friend some suggestions and they told me someone recommended the Armadillo Bumpsuit.

This friend is a Southern California born and bred, tall blonde dancer turned Pilates instructor. She oozes grace and style (and money…). I cannot imagine her with something as horribly inelegant as that pile of overpriced synthetic junk!

I was very proud of myself for politely saying hmm haven’t tried but not something that I would spend that much on blah. I got to rec the SB Scout bc they are the rare folks who actually have that kind of money to blow.

So, in the spirit of good fun and a change of pace around here, what’s the worst carrier you’ve ever had to kindly steer someone away from?

Introducing a potty early has made potty training exponentially easier

I started putting my now 20 month old on a potty after she woke up from overnight/naps and anytime she seemed to be pooping when she was 9 months old. My friends and husband thought I was nuts but I was so tired of dirty diapers. She took to it great and by 15 months, she was signing to tell us when she needed to poop. I let her go bottomless around the house on Wednesday to do a very low key trial run of potty training. She did better than I expected but had a couple accidents. Imagine my surprise when we went out to dinner and she held her pee and kept asking for potty at the table even though she was in a diaper?!? She’s still unfamiliar with adult toilets, so I need to work on on-the-go options, but she waited until we got home almost 2 hours later. Yesterday and today have gone so smoothly. She’s self initiating and had no accidents today!

I think we’ve all, as a society, become obsessed with a 3 day potty training regime aka the “Oh crap” method, usually after kids turn 2, and we’re doing ourselves a disservice. I encourage people to get a potty sooner than later and just start exposing your kids early. There are soooo many posts about kiddos being afraid to poop on the potty. Introduce them to it before they have time to be aware enough to BE afraid.

N of 1 over here and I know my kid has a fairly easy temperament, so I’m definitely not claiming this would solve everyone’s problems. But if you have a kiddo over 6 months and haven’t introduced a potty yet, I HIGHLY encourage you to try it!

Do EC kids night train earlier?

I keep reading that night training is totally hormonal and it’s normal for kids to not be dry at night until 5 or later.

I have done the absolute laziest bare minimum EC with my now 18 month old since she was 9 months old. My only goal was to catch poops, but we put her on the potty after every wake up too. She’s been dry at night since I night weaned her & she started sleeping thru the night at 16 months. Even before that, I could tell if she had slept really well bc her diaper would be dry in the morning, but now it’s pretty much 100% reliable.

Is this just a fluke? Or is the nighttime dryness being hormonal another Big Diaper lie? Just curious!!
