Another special fund but from a big name

ABSA are set to launch a special fund.
This could have a very positive impact on their stocks too. One to watch.

Third world approach to ETFs

Personally I am from Africa and have been investing in ETFs such as VOO and mutual funds for the past 1 year (currently 31 years old). We do end up paying higher broker fees than the usual standards. Tax also becomes different based on where you are.

You also have to factor in the weaker currencies in third world countries and different cost of living which might mean you have lower savings and lower targets.

I was wondering what the approach for other 3rd world investors is and if they have a different approach to how much they allocate to international ETFs etc.

Apologies if this is something that has already been posted.

Special funds

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bhavikababla\_regulators-dont-call-closed-door-meetings-share-7480165261065687043-d\_yD/?utm\_source=social\_share\_send&utm\_medium=ios\_app&rcm=ACoAACVKZuYBL10J7X0B4MilXHW-nYu-jAehSbY&utm\_campaign=copy\_link

As we know, special funds have increased their market share to 25% and two of them have around 200bn under their assets.

It’s definitely curious that this happened right after one disclosed their returns.
Definitely raises concerns for a “robbing Peter to pay Paul scenario”. A pyramid scheme where new investor monies pay for old investors.

Thoughts peeps?

FIRE (Financial independence and Retire early)

I'll breach on a topic that's admittedly not new here. We always talk about how much we are earning etc.
I was hoping to see it from a different perspective.
Do you guys have a number in your head as the target number for your FIRE. That monetary value in net worth which if you reach, you can basically "escape the matrix" and live off the passive income.

In the US they talk about $ 1,000,000 which roughly translates to 130m in KES.
What would your number be? Especially if you use the 4% rule

The 4% rule dictates that basically you can withdraw 4% from your savings per year and live off it.
So for example, if you have 30m saved, you can withdraw 1.2m per year which is 100k/month for expenditures.

So one way to calculate your FIRE value is to get your monthly expenditure e.g. X and multiple by 12. That's your annual expenses. Multiply that by 25 and get your FIRE value.

Note that this doesn't quite account for inflation or KES losing value to $.

So what's your FIRE value?

Bachelor chronicles Ramen V 2.0

The ramen yesterday was so good that I did it again.
This time got the broth quantity right. Put too much spice so had to sweat through it but was much better.
And yes, soft boiled eggs remain!

Bachelor chronicles

Another one to inspire the bachelors.
First attempt at Ramen.
Udon noodles, soft boiled eggs and some left over meat.
I obviously didn't make enough of the soup but otherwise has turned out excellent.
Only way to improve is to try make, fail and improve.

Red sauce pasta with cheese and sausages

Decided to add the steps of how it's made to show how it can take time to get there.

Boil your pasta. Have them al dente especially the smaller ones. They get mushy if overcooked. Keep some of the water.

Oil then Onions, garlic and then bell pepper. Add ginger garlic paste. Add tomato paste. Add condiments. Mine were paprika, Poussin powder, oregano, black pepper, vinegar, chilly sauce, salt and a pinch of sugar.

Now concentrate the sauce on a low heat. Add the sausages (pre cooked and cut down). Keep adding some pasta water and reducing on low heat. Helps add flavour. Reduce to the thickness you like.
Add pasta back. Add cheese of choice. Switch off heat. Add oregano

Done.

The constant reduction and dilution is a hack. Many skip it. Try it. Adds time but also adds flavour.

Until the next one.

Quick, efficient, healthy-ish but also fun enough meals.

Air fryer chicken wings, ugali and spinach.
Pasta with veggies, cheese and chicken.
A meal prep salad lunch for the week. Veggies, chic peas, feta cheese
