Need help adding transactions to software platforms - adding a new tier for subscriptions

Hello,

Where do I seek assistance with adding a new user type to our platform in order to add subscription revenue?

Who should I talk to?

To summarize, currently we have an internet platform that allows users to post content. The original plan was to scale up and monetize via advertising, but we're too niche for that, so we need to figure out how to make subscriptions work.

what financing options do i have for a software company?

I'm going through all the options here. I've been bootstrapping for about 18 months but need more money to get to revenue - about 25-50k.

What options are out there? I don't have real estate I can put up for collateral, which is what I'm reading many lenders need to secure a loan.

I appreciate any and all options here.

alright, hand me your secrets: what's the best and most frugal place to bootstrap in the US?

it needs to be an area i can get a solo place without having a full-time job so i can focus 100% on getting to revenue for the next 6-12 months.

i tried northern kentucky - that may be good and i'm not opposed to it. it snows, but i've adapted to it and kinda like it.

i tried georgia, atlanta area - it's okay, but i don't like their law enforcement system aggressively trying to reach quotas and targeting people

i tried nyc - no car needed, which removes tons of hassle. but of course, it's expensive af housing wise.

tell me, where are your gold mines to focus without having to get a job? (so no sf)

obviously the best place would be "with family so you pay nothing".

and obviously, "it depends on your savings". this is true. let's say i can acquire 50k total for this with the help of a loan. and there is no time cap - the only criteria is get to revenue.

who's the best partner for a struggling entrepreneur turning 30?

I know this isn't a dating sub. But curious all you guys' thoughts.

Have no kids. Not tied down to any location. But very avoidant of jobs right now while I'm working on the business, which doesn't scream Mr. Stable. That kinda takes me out of the running for a lot of women.

What are you guys' thoughts?

I met a girl going to school for law that seemed cool. I told her I was going to a job fair when we met (which was true, but they didn't fit me). But the truth is I can't commit to a job because the business is my top priority.

I've been just not furthering conversations at all, letting things fizzle. Because telling girls that I don't have a job, and that I'm building a business, usually sends them the other way with a "good luck with that" lol. And it's very hard to hide that fact too. And there's the issue of me being as frugal and focused as possible while bootstrapping from savings. So it's only about 20% of the time max I think about entertaining anyone.

better to experience failure while pursuing the business when young or not?

Which is better?

Take the chance and pursue the business in your 20s, draining your safety net in the process and having to start over from scratch going into your 30s?

Or never trying and using your 20s to simply build up stability?

Yes, I'm asking due to a personal situation. Idk if I would've taken the risk if I knew what I know now, not having a safety net. Having family or friends or a college degree, none of those are safety nets. A safety net is actionable. Family that you can actually crash with or they lend a hand. Same with friends. A degree that can help you build back up or open doors.

I have zero regrets here, bc you don't know what you don't know. And something good can come out of everything.

Guys in your late 30s/40s who have succeeded, what's your perspective?

tell me your biggest "by the seat of my pants" story ever (I will not promote)

Title.

I'm very much flying by the seat of my pants right now.

And come on - I know I'm not the only one who has done that in their career. This isn't the entrepreneur sub so idk how seasoned most ppl here are. But if you have any stories, let's hear them.

Sometimes we can only attribute things to good freaking luck, God, the universe, and know that there's no way in hell it'll happen again in a million years lol. But hey, we take it - a win is a win 🔥🔥.

edit: For me, there have been multiple treks on this journey with no job where I thought I was a goner running out of money, only for money to just come. And on one time end up being able to go back to a job just in the knick of time lol. That experience taught me to be much more extreme in my frugality. Haven't had a real apartment lease since. Other experiences balanced that extreme back out. But those close calls can be the best teachers.

You think you know huh? (I will not promote)

You think you know.

"I can't get funding." But what if you can?

"There's too much competition." But what if you win?

"People don't need the product." What if you changed it up and that worked?

"I don't have a team." What if you don't need one?

"I'm in the middle of nowhere." What if that's an advantage?

"I don't know where to start." What if you started anyway?

what to do if employers think you're overqualified?

Many people have spent time in careers and were laid off/want to transition. They're trying to take available jobs outside of their past experience. However, when they're asked to send in a resume, the hiring manager assumes they're overqualified and pass them over.

To people in this situation or experienced in the past, how did you overcome this?

struggling putting my all into job search (i will not promote)

I'm winding down my startup that didn't work out favorably. But I'm having trouble being decisive about the job search.

I know I need income. But I'm having a hard time being decisive about roles, positions, and even following through with temporary part-time jobs available. When it comes time to put in the extra effort needed (like creating and tailoring a resume for those jobs), I'm struggling.

I'm not complaining here - but maybe there is something there psychologically, since things are still fresh. I didn't want to stop, but finances say otherwise - and, I lost the passion of the original idea while on the journey as well after diving deep in it and seeing all its particulars.

Has anyone else made this transition? Who do you reach out to for assistance in getting back on your feet here, that will help with the simple things?

any affordable studios available?

I moved here recently and have lived in an Airbnb and temporary place for the time being. just looking for a place without roommates.

I'm paying $1k for a room now in Harlem with other ppl in it and it's been okay, but I realize I need to live alone. I'd be willing to pay more if it's more convenient and involves no roommates on a day to day basis.

I need to give 30 days notice to leave current place, so I'd be willing to move in in 30 days.

I'd like month to month again, and I'm flexible on location. Ideally still in Manhattan, closer downtown.

exam to hire timelines

I saw some old posts stating that the exam -> results -> hiring process takes 6 months at minimum.

is this still true? that strongly weighs in my decision to invest time here for the present income plan.

How much is typically raised for pre-seed to get to seed (consumer)? (i will not promote)

We're looking at funding now, and considering what the target is. We want to be able to get to the point where it's a sustainable business, but of course being a consumer Internet platform, that may take some time. How should we think about pre-seed and seed funding targets?

If you've experienced this, I'd love to here your experience. Thank you.

I have a virtual career fair tomorrow. Can anyone help with resume update?

I haven't been in the job for awhile and need help updating my resume before the career fair so it doesn't scream "job hopper" or all the other assumptions about experience gaps.

If anyone knows of any service, person, or have done this before, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Software engineering specific.

How do I raise a pre-seed round when there is little traction and we need to pivot? (i will not promote)

Title.

We've been running off of savings and iterating, but the savings have simply ran out and we haven't gotten to product market fit yet. Most likely, the business that ends up working may not be in the same market. But we have all the tech, infrastructure, etc. still setup and working.

How do we do this? How do we pitch this. I appreciate any help, especially from someone who's been here before.

anyone got a template for pitch deck for pre-seed? (i will not promote)

all the investor pitch forms ask for a pitch deck at the end. anyone have a template they've used successfully?

or anything else that was helpful when raising pre-seed to iterate to pmf? (do ppl do this irl, or do ppl just ask family/friends or bootstrap until getting traction?)

Hello,

I recently moved to NYC after being the founding engineer of a startup that closed down. I have 6 yrs of professional experience and use AI in my workflow to increase productivity.

Outside of work, I'm pretty positive. I like eating healthy food, reading, walking, and exercising.

I'm open to work outside of software engineering to get started in NYC. Happy to meet good people. I don't mind doing physical jobs either - part of the reason for moving to NYC was I like how active people are. I don't shy away from work, and am very diligent.
