Just getting into the band and I feel like I joined a secret club
I’ve been listening to primarily heavy dnb/jungle the last few years but my roots are in metal and heavier music. I’ve always known about the Melvins but overlooked them due to a variety of irrelevant reasons
The electronic music scene has become really saturated with artists making tracks for Tik Tok so lately I’ve been craving something well off the beaten path. A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty down and I threw on Bullhead, lit up a few bowls and listened through. It clicked for me right away and I bought the vinyl immediately (side note: been getting back into collecting physical media so discovering the band is a blessing and a curse for that). I dont need to get into it because we all know, but when they get into a groove on that album, it really just makes sense and there’s no other way to explain it. I was hooked from there on.
Now I feel like I want to consume everything I can about the band. Partially my ADHD but it’s mostly because they are so good. The sound is just so purely unique in its rawness and heaviness. I’m really happy to have discovered the band and there’s so much more to listen to.
Reading through this subreddit and seeing all of the releases they have out there makes this seem like a cool community. True music for the outsider within us all
I currently have Houdini, the 1-12 singles set, and Alive at the Fucker Club on CD and the Bullhead vinyl. I’m looking to get Eggnog, Lysol, and Ozma/GPT next because I really like this phase of the Melvins. I still have yet to explore Stoner Witch and onwards so I’m excited to consume all of this music. I’ve read that Working With God has Bullhead vibes so I want to check that one out especially. Any recommendations of 2010s and up Melvins? Seems like that era forward is a real mixed bag
