Some positivity for your Friday. Shoutout to ELO-P in California.

Those of you who have kids probably know about this.

Programs like Think Together and Elevo are seriously life savers.

For those who don't know, in 2021, due to Covid, California passed the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) policy. Basically this was to provide free before-school, after-school, and summer programs for kids across the state.

Let me tell you. While lots of things have gotten worse as time goes on, this is an area that has gotten SO much better. As a kid growing up, my parents just had to figure it out. There was no programs outside of school hours unless they were forking over cash, or if we were lucky enough to be at a school where the Boys and Girls club supported.

Now? My 1st grader was able to spend their entire year at school without me worrying about how I'd get them as soon as the bell rang. They got to stay in their own school, hang out with friends, participate in STEM activities, join clubs such as gardening, fashion, art, folklorico, and even take a trip to Disneyland, all for FREE.

This is on top of being provided 2nd lunches immediately after school ends, and an additional snack if needed. Plus on days where I didn't need the after school care, I just... picked them up like normal.

Now it's the summer... and guess what, I still have child care and don't have to change up my work schedule. Elevo is open for the summer at my kid's school, with a schedule of 8 AM to 4:30 PM. I can drop off/pick up whenever I want, attendance is completely optional, and they still get provided meals and snacks.

Anyways, that's really it. It's not news or anything groundbreaking. I'm just really happy we have such an awesome support system with our schools and for our kids. I know this kind of stuff would have helped my parents out a ton when I was a kid, and it's awesome to witness first hand when state-run programs meant to help its population are effective and beneficial.
