Will this ruin all my hard work?

Hi everyone!

Just had my last test for AP Chemistry.. and it did NOT go as planned. I studied for HOURS, was confident in what I was doing, got over a 100 on the unit quiz, but still failed the test.

This was not my year with chemistry that’s for sure! I did honors chem and physics last year, but still managed to get an A in both classes. However, this year just killed me. I might end with a B-.

I have no idea what to do. For someone trying to get into Georgia Tech OOS for materials science, this is definitely NOT ideal. After contemplating for a bit (freaking out), I thought maybe taking a community college chem course over the summer can balance it out?? Or should I just accept it, hope the colleges see that I tried my best, and move onto the next (Physics C)?

That being said, I still have a 4.7W GPA and am getting a rec from my honors chemistry teacher (hopefully). I also tried the hardest I could and I’m sure my teacher knows that. This doesn’t erase the B- I will have on my transcript tho.

Anyways, any advice is appreciated!! Has anyone been in the same position as me?

Dual Enrollment.. Help!!

Hi everyone!

I’m going to be doing DE at my local college (Lehigh University) next year, and am unsure how to choose classes.

I have everything open to me, and definitely want to take some sort of STEM class. Also, since I’ll be entering my senior year, I don’t want it to be extremely stressful/rigorous. Basically, anything general and “chill” for STEM is preferred!

For some extra information, I’m looking to major in engineering (Materials Science). Are there any courses you guys would recommend before entering college??

Any advice is appreciated!!

Dual Enrollment Courses??

Hi everyone!

I’m going to be doing DE at my local college (Lehigh University) next year, and am unsure how to choose classes.

I have everything open to me, and definitely want to take some sort of STEM class. Also, I hope this would general enough to not be so difficult/be accepted to colleges I am hoping to be admitted to.

For some extra information, I’m looking to major in engineering (Materials Science). Are there any courses you guys would recommend before entering college??

Any advice is appreciated!!

Hi everyone!

I’m a first-generation female Hispanic student interested in Materials Science and Engineering. I attached my resume and transcript.

Next year I’m planning to take a full AP schedule plus a dual enrollment class at Lehigh.

I’m also doing two summer programs this year (a 2-week engineering camp and HSF YLI).

A couple things not on my STEM resume: I did Spanish tutoring at a local elementary school for a few months and have ~225 hours of community service through Big Brothers Big Sisters, Leo Club, church volunteering, etc.

One of my main concerns is that I don’t have research experience, and my chemistry grade. Do you think that’ll hurt me, and is there anything I should try to do to strengthen my application?

I’m also planning to ask for recommendations from my math and science teachers and my counselor (I’m very close with all).

Thanks again for all your help—I really appreciate it, and I’d love any advice you have!

Also, not sure if this helps, but my highschool regularly gets Georgia Tech acceptances (at least 3 a year)!

Hi everyone,

I’m an oos junior interested in Georgia Tech, and I was looking around the website and found an “Admissions Snapshot” that allowed you to change gender, ethnicity, state (even region, major, residency, and even program, to give you tailored acceptance statistics.

Does Georgia Tech really take in mind all of this? If I put my information would it actually give me a proper acceptance rate?

Let me know!

Also, do colleges care about state region? For example, one region would have higher chances than another.

Hi everyone,

I’m a junior in high school really interested in materials science. I’ve been curious about metals my whole life, my dad being a manager at a scrap yard.

I get good grades, with As in AP Physics I and Honors Chemistry, but taking AP Chemistry this year killed me. I don’t understand how I’m doing so bad, and am concerned considering that materials science is a lot of chemistry. Maybe it has something to do with all my other classes and responsibilities? Idk.

Should I still apply to materials science programs with a B- in chemistry? Is my grade concerning?

Hi everyone,

My procrastination really took over me this time and I was wondering if I could still get a 3/4 if I start now. I highkey did NOT cook this whole year, and am kinda screwed, but might as well try right… I’m thinking of just studying units 3/4/5 now, because they hold the most weight.

But, any advice is appreciated please!!
