The Doom Slayer (Doom) and Akira Fudo (Devilman) swap places and must confront demonic invasions in each other's universes

To clarify (since the franchises differ slightly):

  1. The Doom Slayer from *Doom* (2016) swaps with Akira from *Devilman Crybaby*.

  2. The Doom Slayer from *Doom Eternal* swaps with Akira from the live-action movie.

  3. The Doom Slayer from *The Dark Ages* swaps with Akira from the manga and OVA.

What if the Gate opened onto... Larry Niven's Ringworld?

https://preview.redd.it/sm29yjn5kp5h1.jpg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dfe6a90bdbdd88d96562356d5244554f466b42a9

This is not the scenario our community is used to—the one where the Saderans tangle with the wrong crowd and get a sound thrashing. This is a situation of "virtually no resistance, abundant lands, and weak, cowardly inhabitants; we keep conquering and conquering and conquering... yet there is no end to them." How will a renowned Saderan commander react when—thirty years after entering the Gate as a raw, green squad leader—he reaches the edge of the continent as a celebrated, gray-haired legate, gazes out at the sea... and realizes he hasn't even covered a hundredth of the distance *across* the Ring, while the journey *along* its length is millions of times longer?

Trisolarans (Liu Cixin's *Remembrance of Earth's Past*) vs. Moties (Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle's *The Mote in God's Eye*)

Both civilizations are at a similar level of development (early spaceflight—though not as primitive as modern Earth's—and no faster-than-light travel).

Both are extremely creative yet conservative.

Both have survived multiple apocalypses (the Moties due to their biological nature, the Trisolarans due to the nature of their system).

The Trisolarans capture the *Crazy Eddie* probe in their system and conclude that the Mote is an excellent destination for relocation.

As in the canonical storyline involving Earthlings, the journey will take four hundred years, but the situation on the ground can be monitored using sophons.

Neither side knows the true nature of the cosmos surrounding them. It could be the paranoid "Dark Forest" of Liu Cixin, or it could be the relatively friendly "Known Space" of Larry Niven. The Trisolarans believe in the former scenario, whereas the Moties do not subscribe to any particular belief system; they simply adapt to the situation.

The Culture on the Hyperion

Culture Special Circumstances Agent Diziet Sma and her drone, Skaffen-Amtiskaw, are participating in the Shrike Pilgrimage on Hyperion.

  1. They are limited solely to their own resources.

  2. They have a Culture ROU or GCU in orbit around Hyperion, the support of which they may utilize.

What are their chances of altering the ending of *The Fall of Hyperion* in each scenario?

Rick Sanchez vs. Doctor Who

These characters bear a certain resemblance to one another.

  • Both are mad scientists (whose science often defies not only the laws of physics but also common sense).
  • Both have seen countless worlds and civilizations.
  • Both have died on multiple occasions.
  • Both harbor an unhealthy attachment to their ordinary mortal companions.
  • Both are extremely cynical and possess a twisted sense of humor.

So, which of them will be able to rid the multiverse of the other?

One-time cheat code for money

You may receive any sum of money, in any currency you desire—be it a million or a billion—but:

  1. This money will not appear out of thin air; it will be taken from someone who currently possesses it. Therefore, you cannot demand a quintillion dollars, as that amount of money simply does not exist on planet Earth. You may specify the owner (or owners) from whom the funds are to be taken, as well as the specific amount to be withdrawn from each of them.
  2. The seizure process will be entirely legal. The former owners cannot reclaim their money through the courts; however, they may come to hate you for it and seek retribution against you through legal means. Alternatively, they may resort to illegal means—facing the same risks of punishment they would have faced prior to the seizure—though now they would possess a compelling motive.
  3. You will be required to pay income tax—along with any other taxes mandated by the laws of your country, city, or state—on the full amount seized. This seizure is a one-time event, and the resulting sum will not be indexed or adjusted for inflation thereafter.
  4. Once you have received the specified sum and paid the applicable taxes, you will permanently lose the ability to receive *any* money from *anyone* else. This includes salaries, business income, and monetary gifts. You will not even be able to earn interest on the funds you have acquired. For the remainder of your life, your only financial activity will be spending this money.

Given these conditions, would you agree to accept the money? If so, how much would you take, from whom would you take it, and how would you choose to spend it?

P.S. The cheat code allows you to take—from whomever you wish—only what is considered money: coins, banknotes, or digital currency. It does not work on assets such as stocks or real estate.

The Triathlon of Regal Nobodies

Joffrey Baratheon-Lannister-Waters and John Gillman Homelander are competing in three categories simultaneously:

  1. Which of them has objectively inflicted more harm (directly and indirectly killed more people, and caused more people to suffer)?
  2. Which of them is morally worse—whose actions are more unforgivable?
  3. Which of them is more pathetic, contemptible, and inwardly helpless?

Magic and the Law of Conservation of Momentum

A character from the D&D universe with the ability "Immunity to Non-Magical Damage" lands in a high-tech universe and takes a non-magical artillery shell to the chest. How would you describe the consequences?

  1. The character remains standing exactly where they were, while the flattened shell falls at their feet.

  2. The character is sent flying along with the shell, smashing head-first through a dozen walls, yet rises from the rubble safe and sound—albeit extremely angry.

  3. The character remains standing exactly where they were; the shell passes right through them and strikes a target behind them.

I am particularly interested in how the physical mechanics of how invulnerability activates are described in the D&D rules themselves—assuming, of course, that any of the authors ever gave it any thought.

How do you think events would have unfolded if Conquest had arrived a few days earlier?

He would have found the War of the Invincibles in full swing.

Personally, I’d love to see the look on his face when he tries to figure out which of the Marks is his.

Obviously, eventually he would have just thrown up his hands and said, "Screw it—I'll just kill everyone. That's even more fun."

It is also interesting to consider which Marks are already familiar with him (the Viltrumite Mark certainly is; Omni-Mark, probably). Will they—even all of them together—be able to beat him up?

How will Angstrom react to this?

What will the original Mark and Earth's heroes do?

The most horrific form of violence

Rank these four types of violence from worst to least evil, in your opinion:

  • Killing people
  • Maiming people
  • Torturing people
  • Raping people

For the sake of experimental purity, we assume that each type of violence does not entail the others: that is, killing and maiming are entirely painless; maiming and torture do not shorten the victim's remaining lifespan; and rape and torture do not inflict incurable physical injuries (though they may leave psychological trauma). Naturally, in reality, this is usually not the case, and a reduction in the duration of life typically goes hand in hand with a decline in its quality.

Would your rating change depending on who the victim is (including if it were you yourself)?

Can anyone recommend a movie or anime that features specific combat techniques for guys with superpowers?

Wherever I see fights between "supers," they are either mindlessly pummeling each other with their fists—vying to see whose uppercut packs the most punch—or simply mimicking techniques from real-world martial arts... arts designed *by* humans and *against* humans.

Has a single fight choreographer ever attempted to devise a martial art specifically tailored for beings who are inherently stronger, tougher, and faster than humans—and which takes into account that their *opponent* is just as strong, tough, and fast?

Something along the lines of:

"Do not attempt to bash his head against a wall—his head is inherently tougher than the wall. You will only damage public property, while for him, it will be no more jarring than being struck by a pillow. For that same reason, do not attempt to hurl cars or ships at your enemy."

"Remember that leg sweeps and throws are useless against flying opponents."

"Unless your enemy possesses X-ray vision, a handful of dust thrown into the eyes may prove more effective than a bullet aimed at the very same spot."

"Before attempting a chokehold, verify exactly how long your opponent can survive without oxygen."

"Before breaking the sound barrier, assess who might be caught within the blast radius of the resulting shockwave."

I must emphasize: it is their personalities that swap—not their memories. Thragg still considers himself Thragg; he simply begins to behave like Homelander. And vice versa.

Which of them will ultimately commit more crimes than their canonical counterpart—and which, fewer? Who will prove to be a more vile and repulsive individual than their canon version—and who, less so? Who will achieve greater career success—and who, less?
