I am a 32-year-old Italian citizen and I am planning to apply for a Mandarin course at a university in Taiwan (I am currently looking at NTNU MTC and NTU CLD).

I would like to ask people who have experience with the process:

How easy is it to get a student visa for studying Mandarin at a Taiwanese university?

How long did the visa process take for you?

Is it usually a straightforward process if you have the university admission documents?

I’m finally moving away from Apple products and Safari, and I’m trying to sort out my browser setup as part of that switch (also moving toward the Nothing ecosystem).
I’m a bit out of the loop here, so I’m trying to gather some solid recommendations.
I used Chrome years ago for work, but this time I’m looking for something cleaner, lighter, and more privacy-focused.
From my research, I’ve narrowed it down to:
Brave
Zen / Vivaldi
I don’t keep many tabs open and I prefer a minimal setup overall.
At the moment I’m leaning toward Brave, but I’d really like to hear opinions or better suggestions before I commit.

I am obsessed with the design of the Nothing Phone (3) \[or Phone (3a) Pro\] and I'm looking to make the jump from my iPhone 14 Pro Max (which is starting to glitch after some water damage). The more I look into the Nothing world, the more I fall in love with it. I also think it's the only model in their lineup that supports eSIM.
What is your experience with the phone so far? Do you think it's better to buy now, or should I wait to see what next year's flagship looks like?

I don't strictly *need* to change phones right now, but my current one is definitely giving up on me and soon I will be in USA so I will take the chance to buy it there due to exchange rate better than Italy

The only author I’ve ever consistently read and enjoyed is Niccolò Ammaniti. I’m looking for a gripping story that completely hooks you from page one—ideally something dark, violent, and pulp-style.

A couple of weeks ago I made a post asking where to start learning Chinese. I’ve never studied it before, but I’m considering taking a break from work to build a solid foundation that could also make my CV more unique.
I’m a 32-year-old Italian and I’ve worked on cruise ships for the past 6 years, including 4 years in excursions as an assistant manager.
At first, I was trying to decide between Taiwan and Mainland China. I love the idea of Taiwan, but the process feels overwhelming to me, especially with university bureaucracy and the high cost of private schools.
So now I’m exploring Mainland China instead, but I feel a bit stuck because of fear and the feeling that maybe I’m not capable of doing this.
I would really appreciate advice from people who have been through something similar:
What’s the best way to approach learning Chinese from zero?
Which cities in China would you recommend for studying? So far I’ve looked into Chengdu because it seems affordable and enjoyable, although I also loved Xi’an.
Realistically, what level of Chinese can someone achieve after 6 months or 1 year of intensive study?

I am planning to move to Taiwan for a long-term language immersion (6 months to a year) after spending the last few years working. My goal is to at least manage basic, everyday conversations.
I have already reached out to NTNU (MTC) and NTU (CLD) for quotes. I also checked out private options like LTL, but their accommodation and tuition packages are way over my budget.
Are there any other reputable university language centers or private institutes in Taipei (or even other cities like Taichung or Kaohsiung) that offer a good balance between quality and affordability? I would love to hear any personal experiences or recommendations you might have.
