I recently inherited this gorgeous unworn dress from my mother, and it was recommended I hop to this group for some care questions.

I am mainly wondering whether these feathers are meant to be unfurled. That might seem silly but the dress was never worn, they aren’t all furled and I’m not able to tell if that’s a preservation technique for the feathers, or something that naturally happened as the dress just sat and moved around for years? I’m including a pic of what I’m talking about as well as a pic where they’re naturally unfurled and you can see they’re stitched in.

I’m also wondering if that small tear could potentially be fixed. I’m nervous about taking the dress somewhere as this is my first valuable vintage piece and don’t know who to trust to care for it.

Edit: found a tag that states the date of purchase as 2/9/65! I promise I looked briefly… it’s just so beautiful I was scared to dig around

My mom just passed and we’re going through her things. I know this is an ostrich feather dress she had been wanting me to try on, her mother bought it for her that never fit but I’m not sure when in her own life my grandmother bought it. So I’m thinking anywhere from 50’s to 90’s. I’m definitely keeping it, and as someone who knows very little about vintage fashion I’m just curious when this might be from! Thanks :)

Acquired some pretty things from my mom. The app I have says the green is malachite, and the darker one is likely carborundum. Agreed? Thanks!

I’m not well educated with crystals or rocks yet, and acquired a couple through my mom… the app I have says this is likely moissanite/carborundum, agreed? I’m only hesitant because I can’t find many images matching that same structure. Thanks!
