Are they German? I’ve never seen them before but have had a few in my bathroom today and I’m panicking

I am currently knitting the Wintergarden Pullover by Mary Ann Stephens and I am confused. I am on the trim braid at the bottom of the sweater, and row 3 makes no sense to me. I am knitting a size XL, so I started with column 5, and continued 1 2 3 4 5 until I reached 6 stitches before the center front marker. I then did the 6-18 stitch pattern in the center, and began the 19-23 repeat. The problem is no matter how many ways I try to figure it out, the motifs will not line up. When I finish the 19-23 repeat, I have 1 stitch left before the marker. If I just continue on and begin the 1-5 repeat again, when I get to the center back I have 2 stitches remaining before the marker. I cannot figure out any way to line it up, as I have 4 markers on my needles, and 2 of them have 77 stitches between them, and the other 2 have 78. Any help is appreciated because I’m not sure where to go from here.
