Dog had a rough week. Recovering from AHDS and a subsequent UTI.
I have a 5 yr old female Penrose corgi, spayed. On Sunday night she threw up. We all have bad tummy days. I kept a watch on her but her demeanor didn’t change. On her walk the next day, my husband texted concerned and showed me a picture that looked like raspberry jam. I know what that type of diarrhea is a symptom of and made an immediate vet appointment. Bloodwork showed clear markers for AHDS and we admitted her to the vet hospital for fluids, meds and observation for 24 hours. It was rough, she lost control of her bowels and kept messing herself with the bloody feces. Luckily she responded well and within 24 hours was discharged with some followup meds. The next day she was peeing constantly. I thought it was because she was expelling all the additional IV fluids. However it continued into the next day, with straining to urinate and blood in the urine. Immediate trip back to the vet and confirmed she has a nasty UTI; a fairly common secondary result from AHDS due to translocation of bacteria from the excessive diarrhea. So now she’s on Clavomox and miserable. Her stools have turned up thankfully, but she is refusing almost all food and water is infrequent. I’m reluctant to use too many indulgent foods or high value treats because she’s supposed to be on a bland diet. I relented to wrapping tonight’s pill in a bit of cheese as she needs to take it. She is clearly uncomfortable and recovering from a traumatic ordeal. I want nothing more than to make things all better for her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My account got locked for not being verified. Ok, sure got all my passport info in and suddenly I get stuck on the photo verification part. It keeps saying it’s too bright. I’ve lowered my phone brightness, turned down the room lights, made sure I’m wearing black against a black surface, even tried it under a sheet. No luck. Am I just too pale to use Rednote anymore?
