obsession movie is such a *chef's kiss* 😗🤌
it all started when i watched penguinz0's reaction to the movie. i've been watching his videos for a while, and most of them are just rants or negative reactions to issues. it made me curious about how good the movie must be for him to approve of it haha (he also loved iron lung, so i just knew it had to be a really good one). then i caught a couple of clips din sa tiktok, and they just made me so curious to the point na lumabas na ako last sunday for a solo date. it's only my third time watching a movie in the cinema and my first time going solo, so i was reluctant. but gosh, it was a worthy experience 😩
nagkaroon pa ng technical difficulty sa cinema (the conversation at the start went silent for 30 seconds), so they had to replay it. i thought pangitain na yun for a bad experience TwT.
my review is 9.9/10 ⭐
there are lots of things that make it great. i like the pacing of the movie, the build-up and progression of bear and fake nikki's love story (or romance lol), and how everything feels heavier and more messed up before the climax. andaming memorable na scenes. tumatak sa akin yung scene na ngiting-ngiti si nikki after umalis si bear for work. like, what the heck? smiling like that, tapos frozen pa yung scene na yun for seconds. the most fucked-up scene was the cat sandwich. the most nakakagulat one was the car scene with sarah. i hated that TwT (why the hell did it happen for so looong). i usually hate gore, but i'll overlook it here since the story is just perfect talaga (only minus 0.1 sa rating haha).
story-wise, i'm not sure if people realize how bad bear's character is. the time when he was talking with the real nikki and he just went, "what's so bad about being with me?" bruh, he's the one obsessed with having nikki, but he never actually liked her in a romantic way. he's the nightmare-kind-of-guy. the kunwari-mabait-pero-he'll-take-advantage-of-u type. the friends' dynamic is also very necessary for the plot. i think they should have shown a bit more of ian and nikki though. poor sarah. poor nikki TwT. both real and entity-nikki.
i love how natural the actors are dinnnn. i'm not sure if this was the crew's first movie, but they did so well.
i've never been this disturbed since hereditary. i've never wanted to talk about a movie with someone this much since the substance. this movie made me crave horror movies again TwT. i think i'll be having monthly solo (horror) movie dates from now on haha
