Seeking advice from seasoned narrators please!

Hi, I have been producing an audiobook with a RH who has published audiobooks in the past to Audible, and seems legitimate. However I had received no communication from them other than the original enquiry about my availability. I sent multiple messages, submitted the 15 min checkpoint and kept them up to date on my side of things, asked for their opinions and for any feedback to be met with no response.

I started to get anxious so I sent a message asking if they wanted to continue this collaboration as the lack of interaction and support is making me feel uneasy and they replied the next week with a kind message, assuring me that all is well and they apologise for the situation on their part.

Should I continue on despite feeling unsure or would you pull out from here? This spanned from the end of June until now, and I can’t help but feel like I’m making a mistake. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!

Crackling sounds and very minimal voice pick up - pls help!!

Hi Reddit, I’m very very new to this audio recording thing. Please send help (In layman’s terms preferably!!), what am I doing wrong?

My Scarlet 2i2 audio interface is connected and recognised by my PC (windows 11). The green USB light on the interface is lit. I have 48V activated as I have a Rode NT1 Signature Series plugged in (I know my issues are unrelated to my microphone and my XLR cables as I have tried multiple). All led lights show up as to be expected when picking up the crackling sound. I have downloaded the software from the Focusrite website and ensured my sample rate size on my DAW(audacity) is the same as my device (48000hz). I have deleted and reinstalled drivers multiple times, reset to default settings etc.

Despite all of this I cannot get a clear sound out of it at all. I have attached a mp3 of me clapping loudly in front of the mic, which it barely picks up, but it picks up crackling and popping as I move my mouse to stop recording. Please help me, I’ve replaced multiple microphones, XLR cables and USBC connectors, as well as using GarageBand on my iPad instead of Audacity and all I can hear is constant loud, obnoxious crackles and pops!! I’m going insane!!!!

Rode NT1 signature series issue

Hello! I recently upgraded my VO/Narrator set up at home, and bought the Rode NT1 signature series and the Scarlett 2i2 4th gen. I use a pc and audacity.

I managed to get it all set up and working, including putting it on 48v, and for some reason, my mic only works properly in a very specific position. When in the correct placement it sounds clear and crisp with the gain up at around 35db, but I every time I slightly adjust it or breathe in its direction, it barely pics up my voice and sounds like I’m underwater. If I tap on the side of the mic it goes in and out of various levels of picking up sound, crackling, popping and then clear again.

I thought it could be a dodgy XLR connection so I changed it, but no. The scarlet seems to work perfectly so I don’t believe it’s that. Do I have a dodgy mic and need to send it back? It’s brand new so I know it’s not a moisture issue.

Please let me know if you have an idea to try before I send it back and any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
