In early 927, King Aethelstan conquered the final Danelaw kingdom of York and officially came to control all of England.

Then soon after on the 12th of July that year, Aethelstan was officially recognised by all the lesser Celtic and Norse rulers as King of the English.

Incidentally, today is also my 18th birthday. So happy birthday to England and to me!

Hey everyone, just wanted to celebrate the 40,000 member milestone for the subreddit!!! I know with Reddit’s new UI you can’t actually see subreddit numbers anymore (a bit ridiculous in my opinion), but as a mod I can confirm we’ve passed 40k now (admittedly we passed it 2 weeks ago)

Thanks to everyone who makes this community interesting! I’m still learning new things about monarchs every day and I’ve been at this 2 and a half years. Cheers to you all!
