This Barenaked Ladies lyric has always seemed to me to express the Leanfire/Mustachian philosophy. Find things that make you happy, that are cheap or free, do them now, and know that you would continue to do REGARDLESS of your NW. I wish the world of personal finance had more of this, and less of people like Ramit Sethi saying "spend spend spend."

Mine are walking or cycling to get places when possible... and making my own scrambled eggs, because restaurants never really get them right. What are yours?

First of all, I really enjoyed this one. Original plot, good characters, great portrayal of the Glasnost-era USSR.

Two plot issues trouble me though, both pertaining to the protection of Katya.

First, how on earth could Barley trust the KGB to keep up their end of the bargain by not arresting and interrogating her? It's not like the KGB had their version of Palfrey drafting agreements with sources and then ensuring they were honored.

Second, it is mentioned several times that with modern methods, no one can hold up long under torture. So are we to believe that Goethe didn't spill all the beans about Katya shortly after he was arrested? Maybe because the interrogators didn't ask the right questions? Please tell me what I'm missing here

Are there really season ticket holders occupying the entire Nordecke? (If so, more power to them!) Or was this the result of some skullduggery by the TicketMafia and the Crew front office to discourage people buying tickets on game day?

So I've been following the Medicaid work requirement imposed by the current administration with, shall we say, great interest. Given the ability to be olde School MMM-style frugal, I'd considered relying on that for health coverage post--RE, but a major wrench is being thrown into those particular work.

HOWEVER, I'm not interested in RE for the purpose of lounging on the sofa and reading Reddit all day. In my state, one of the exceptions to the work requirement is if you do at least 20 hours/week of "community service." I really like volunteering, as opposed to the pressure and inflexibility of a paid job. And I know of several charities doing good work in my town.

How do we expect that to work in practice? You do something like a timesheet, your "supervisor" at the nonprofit signs off on it and you submit it to your state DHS weekly or monthly? Anyone else considering this option? What I don't want is a gap in health coverage due to red tape, as this could get expensive really quick.

Suppose I'm checking out of my hotel room, the housekeepers have done a good job, and I realize I have absolutely no cash on me.

So a couple times a year, I have a cookout. The last 2-3 times, a guy I invited has arrived right when we were wrapping up, and it was awkward. Like, the cookout started at 6, he rolled in at 9pm, everyone had gone home, we'd put away all the food and were moving the folding chairs off the deck etc.

Is it acceptable to shoot him a message to the effect of, "We'll be starting around 6 and aren't going to go super late"?

I should mention he is an acquaintance as opposed to a close friend. But other than the above issue, I'm happy to have him on the guest list!
