Why are older sealed booster boxes worth more than top chases?
I'm not a large sealed collector, I mostly have sealed products of stuff I can find at MSRP to trade into singles. I've seen plenty of creators opening up sealed products chasing hits that are worth less than the sealed products themselves. How has the market gotten this far out of balance? The only way to recoup value opening older sealed products is to pull a top chase AND THEN have it grade high (sometimes only as a 10). Those percentages seem so low I don't understand the value.
Example: Burning Shadows:
\- Single booster box: $1200
\- Top chase: Charizard GX 150: \~$600 raw / PSA 10 $7400
\- Second Highest: Fairy Energy (Secret) - $88 raw / PSA 10 $500
\- Pull Rates: idk pullrates.com says 1-75 for a RR
\- Gem rate Charizard: 12%
\- Overall odds: less than 1%
With this rip & ship economy and the larger creators constantly opening older sets I get we're going to hit a supply shortage, but even then the premium vs buying the top chase in a high grade still seems not worth it.
So I continue to question how prices are this high? What am I missing in the value of older sets?
