A rotifer maybe?

Sample taken near Sarnia, Ontario. I believe 100x objective with 10x eyepiece. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Best books on WWII tanks?

What books would everyone recommend on WWII tanks? I’ve been looking at the Panzerwrecks series, and the Panzer Tracts, but I’m interested in allied tanks too.

The Window Design Irks Me

The acrylic window was unrated because it was designed to be flat on the inside. Normally, they’re curved on the inside to better distribute the force. This has the unfortunate side effect of making everything outside look smaller.

Rush wanted the inside flat, so it would make things look bigger. The problem is that this messes up the distribution of the force and would cause the window to deform over time.

I’m irked because there is actually quite a simple solution: have the acrylic curved on the inside, but have a chamber that is flat on the side facing the passengers filled with a fluid that has the same refractive index as the acrylic. This way the force is still distributed properly, but you also get the desired optical properties. It doesn’t even need to be a fancy fluid, sugar water would work.

I am baffled as to why this does not seem to have occurred to anybody.

Sample collecting kit?

I like to carry a small kit for collecting samples. Right now it’s a ziploc bag with a few 5ml glass vials and a couple pipettes.

What do you think I should add?

Any idea what this is?

Seen in a sample of stagnant water I found on my parent’s property. 40x objective with 10x eyepiece, quick and dirty photo taken with my phone held up to eyepiece. Microscope is Unitron BMLK, with an LKR tungsten illuminator. Should be doing Kohler illumination.

If I measured it with the graticule correctly, it’s about 30μm long by 20μm wide. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

I collect a lot of knowledge, but wisdom is a point of particular interest for me. I’ve found The Plague by Camus, The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, and Proverbs and Ecclesiastes from the Bible illuminating. Currently working on reading the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.

Is there anybody else here who is also interested in this? Any suggestions for books I should check out?

They can be seen at the top of this image. They appear when shooting both colour and B&W, and with two different lenses. I’ve tried blowing off the sensor with a blower and there’s been no change. Is this a dirty sensor, or is there something else I should check?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
