early thoughts on the mff era
music fashion film: the types of media people know household names from.
the album will reflect on themes of reflecting on her own self-image now that she's a household name.
wink wink has a layer of irony for every wink. the whole project is a wink at the audience. "im known for this but real ones know that's not exactly who i am": she's going for a surface-level sound to disappoint ignorant brats (all love fr), but charli's angels will be able to read between the lines of each song. her monologue at the start is a wink to the 365 party girl persona that flanderized charli in the height of brat summer. she feels a pressure to feed into that image because it's what new fans expect, but she's acting; this isn't her. there's no point in trying to explain that that isn't who she is though. she's better off going along with it and maybe even admitting a kernel of truth to the brat version of her just to get people off the notion that the 365 party girl persona is exactly who charlotte is. this song is dedicated to those new fans. "you dont get me" because "you dont get me".
ss26 is her state of the world address that she needs to use her platform for. "why arent you addressing this?" idk music, fashion, and film cant save us. what am i to do? it's almost giving land acknowledgement like before i start talking about me, i need to take a moment to acknowledge that the world is dying and we need to do something about it. the everything is political theme reminds me of her "kamala is brat" tweet. a perfomative and hollow, yet ultimately inconsequential act (no hate i still love my girl). charli's linked her name to an infamous political failure at the height of her brat success. how can she not speak on the state of the world as it is in this moment, but she's reckoning with the reality that her job isn't that vital bc it cant save anyone. without a world to remember her, who is charli xcx?
she said she's trying to do the opposite of brat, so if an ignorant brat (all love fr) hasn't explored her body of work she wants the music to confuse them. she's gonna make music for herself first and everyone else second. paradoxically, she cares what people think (evident from brat). she wants to get ahead of anyone trying to put her in a box. fans are chasing her down trying to tell her what they want her to do. she bullshits her way through the first track as a deflection. a *shh shh* 🤫👀😮💨 ok now that theyre gone let's get into it type beat
rock music is the palette cleanser. the song has some classically rock ingredients, and she says she's making "rock music," but it's not rock in many other ways. it has a the glitched loop of "ro-o-o-o-o-o-o-ock" at each chorus injecting a bit of the unexpected into the otherwise boiler plate pop structure, especially as the 'rock's get longer and longer each go around. if anything, rock music is punk. she doesnt care what you want and she doesnt care if she's right. she doesnt really care about anything right now. she's banging her head. 🤘🙂↕️
no she's really banging her head.🫸🤕
