Egrets are far more of a common sight than during my childhood, mostly Little Egrets but Great White and Cattle pop up too.
Storks reintroduction seems to be going well
Cranes are back
Spoonbill numbers are apparently rising
Last years large numbers of migrant Glossy Ibis
Herons themselves seem stable.
What's going on? Climate change? Conservation success? Coincidence?
This seems to run against the grain of typical environmental doom, maybe the type of environmental protections we have been investing in happen to be ideally suited to this... genre of bird?
