what are some of the humerous comments you've seen (keeping in mind confidentiality, of course).
A few memorable ones for me:
"Dr. XXXX is an ass!"
(I liked this one for being succinct, and entirely accurate)
"Dr. XXXX came to class three weeks in a row with his fly down"
(just so all you students know, my eyes are up here)
"Dr. XXXX needs to start wearing socks to lectures"
(again, my eyes are up here)
"Dr. XXXX seems obsessed with the lectures and text. Every one of his midterms asked questions that came right from the lectures"
(fair enough)
"Dr XXXX is just plain scary"
(True, I'm almost scared to be alone with myself)
So, my wonderful partner snores like crazy. She sounds like a roaring bear riding a motorcycle.
I, in turn, sound like a roaring bear riding a motorcycle while playing the drums.
I've been using the Ozlos for about a year (bought for my time sleeping in group yurts in Uzbekistan). They've mostly solved the problem for me.
I have been trying to talk her into giving a pair a try although she doesn't love white noise.
The main concern I have (if I could talk her into it) is that Ozlos are pretty good at masking all sounds. I tend not to wear them when she isn't here because I worry that a fire alarm or something will go off and I'll sleep right through it.
Any Ozlo couples out there? How do you manage this issue?
PS Don't bother suggesting we need sleep tests - been there, done that, and won't sleep with a vacuum on my face.
Now, that we are on the other end of the podium, dealing with students who are irresponsible and who blow off class, its hard to remember those days when some of us were equally immature. Think back to those days, and come up with some embarrassing stories.
My worst was sitting in the wrong class for almost 4 weeks. It was conversational Spanish, basically 5th semester Spanish. I was supposed to be in third semester Spanish. Didn't realize I was in the wrong place though because 1) I didn't care, 2) everybody was speaking Spanish to me and I couldn't understand Spanish.
I tell that story every semester, on the first week of class! I'm still embarrassed about it! However, it does succeed in getting students to check their schedules.
I could also wax philosophical about my run-ins with university police and the many year I spend on disciplinary probation.
Not an original thought - stolen from Friedman. One "side effect" of the deals that many of us (specifically ME) thought we insane is that the isles will be heading into the future with some bargain deals. When Horvat got his 8.5 million deal, I figured it would age really badly. The way things are going, third line centers will eventually be making that buck. In the meantime, there are going to be very few players who approach Horvat's all around game making that little.
You could apply that kind of logic to many of the isles vets. Hopefully, those long-term deals will actually give Darche some room to maneuver down the line.
Right shot defender, new york boy, excellent offensive upside. Seems like an ideal pick, and from what I can read about him, he's not that big a reach in the middle part of the draft.

Watching the transactions today, and reading all the fans screaming "do something" - I'm reminded of Snow's ill-fated signing of Andrew Ladd (which, from what I've read, was motivated by ownership's impatience). Okposo had just left for Buffalo, other supposedly high caliber players (like Loui Eriksson) were getting snapped up right and left, and it looked like the Isles were just going to tread water. So, Snow gave into the pressure and made the move he still had available - the disastrous signing of Ladd. In retrospect, the best move that day would have been to let other GMs overspend, say goodbye to Kyle Okpsoso, and not do anything else. Sometimes the best move is to not move. Far be it from me to defend Darche (who, up to now, I've been mostly unimpressed by). However, in my opinion, the best move right now is to be patient. Use to the pick, make some conservative signings on July 1, and build around the kids.
For a long time, isles had a close relationship with Newsday and Newsday beat guy was always the definitive source for info on the isles. whether you liked Hahn,Staple et al or not, they seem to always have the full picture. These days, I'm less convinced by the available sources. Rosner seems like a hard working guy but I often get the sense that he lack sources and replies on social media and other columnists (like that clown Pagnotta). Andrew Gross also seems fine, but I've not found him all that informative. Where do you guys turn for trustworthy isles info?
Isles fan coming in peace - not here to debate past or future trades. In fact, I have zero interest in chatting about trades. I was just curious about Oliver Kapanen for no particular reason (again, no proposing a move or a trade). I admit that I have not watched that particular player very carefully, but I do note that attitudes toward him from some Hab fans seem fairly ambivalent. Pure from an outsider's perspective, he comes across as a player with a solid two-way game who put up impressive numbers at a very young age. So, why isn't there more enthusiasm for this kid? I wondered if the issue was just that the Habs are loaded with so much wonderful young talent that he just got lost in the shuffle. Anyway, would love to see some Hab fan opinions about him.

So who are your favorites and why? I was a horrible player - could barely skate but I worked my butt off and contributed. So, I always loved the Cal Clutterbuck types, the hard working gritty players who maybe didn't score that much.
Oddly though, my alltime favorite was one of the most talented Islanders ever - number 5! Was a huge fan since his rookie game.
I've been called a "mother" by students more than once. I should get brunch!
It's it my imagination or is nhl goaltending at a low ebb right now? There was a time when nearly ever top tier team had elite goaltending (Fuhr, Dryden, Smith) and there were actually teams with two elite guys ( remember the Ranger$ with VBK and Richter?). Heck, there were periods when the Isles had three nhl caliber goalies on the roster. Nowadays it's seems like half the teams in the league need goaltending.
If I'm Darche, I make sure to include goalies in the draft, I hold onto Sorokin no matter what, and I do what I must to bring Gamzin over
PS Cheers again to the high-quality responses. Once again, nobody agrees with me and once again all sorts of insightful comments. Really appreciate the thoughtful informed comments.

Everywhere I look on social media their are fantasy proposals involving Barzal. Many fans seem eager to unload him. Barzal is a flawed player, he doesn't shoot enough and he expands too much energy on the peripheries but he's also an elite skater and playmaker. He's an offensive threat every time he is on the ice and he's also become a fairly effective defensive player. He's not the elite center we all thought he'd become after that 85 pt year but he's a valuable guy who will get you 70 to 80 pts a year. Not a franchise guy but a player who could help most teams in the league and a major asset. So why all the hate?
Anybody in the US having problems with their free year of charging? Plug and Charge completely stopped working for me and now I can't even set up charging manually using the "public charging" option in the app. It just sits there with a message telling me it is contacting the charger and nothing happens.
