Dash's first proper hike

We went to the Lake District for our summer holiday and here is Little Dash hiking a mountain to get to the waterfalls 😄 We hiked everyday for three days, and he was a trooper! We almost couldn't believe how agile he was climbing steep rocky bits of the hike. Don't underestimate those little legs!

First long drive to the Lake District

Our Hyundai Inster made it to the Lake District! We drove from Norwich amd found it really easy to find charging points! We charged midway to Doncaster, then charged again in Doncaster, next charge was around Penrith which was enough to get us to Keswick. Love this small car! Photo of our dog whose been tired from hiking also included 😄

Have I successfully grown olives??

Have just seen these on my olive tree today! How much of these fruits will actually grow into mature fruits? Seems quite a lot in here for a small tree!

Garden update! Three weeks after people said our garden was horrible

I posted here three weeks ago about our garden transformation and a lot of people commented about how there was too much patio, how our lawn was so patchy, how it was a "live love laugh" lawn, didn't encourage wildlife, and basically how horrible it was 😂 After three weeks, the lawn has been successfully reseeded, and the plants have gone crazy! We still have our patio and our decking, and we still like our bbq parties though 😅

Other side of our front garden

Posted about my lavenders a couple of days ago. Here's actually a photo of the other side. We just planted some ground cover roses (Rosa Amirose as mid layer and Rosa cutie pie as smaller bush), some creeping thyme, and also some sedum. I've also installed a little free library and it's become a community share box (there's dog treats, card games, stationery in there too!). For wildlife we have a bird feeder, bug hotel, and hedgehog house (behind the bushes, not seen in photo). I'm so pleased with our work, and also pleased our front garden can be a community hub where people share with each other 😊

Glorious lavenders after a year!

We bought a new build last year and the developers planted lavender bushes. I cannot believe how big they've gotten in a year! It smells so good when you walk past the house 😄

Little Dash's first swim!

Today was Dash's first swim! We went to a swim class for dogs and he was a natural! Sometimes a bit unsure so just needs to work on his confidence but we're glad he likes the water 🐶

Almost felt hopeless until we had two weeks of rain

For context we have three cats and a puppy who use the lawn as their toilet 😅 Pup is now almost a year old and potties mostly on walks. Also got the cats an outdoor litter tray which has helped. We also added clover seeds which sprouted quicker than the grass seeds. There's still a few patches but hoping it fills out soon 🙏

Crazy olive tree! Will it fruit?

This was a housewarming gift from a friend last year. This year I'm astounded by the amount of flowers. Does it have a chance to fruit? It would be exciting!

Our garden transformation!

Well, we have just finished all the works that needed doing this year. From nothing but a vast expanse of grass to a nice cosy garden. We have started reseeding the lawn (I know, it looks awful) and mixed in some clover seeds as well. I'm hoping it will grow! We have 3 cats and a dog who use the grass as their toilet and I'm trying to find solutions for it (an outdoor cat litter is on the way). I'm excited for the plants to grow and as a first time outdoor gardener, I know it will be a lot of trial and error with what works and what doesn't. For now, I'm keen to try different fruits (apple, fig, strawberry, blueberry) and flowers (all perennials). 😁🌸🪴

Anyone else's app showing "grid importing" but the energy is actually exporting to the grid?

It's been like this since we installed our battery 2 months ago and it's really strange. Even the Octopus app confirms that energy is going out to the grid.

Day and night in the garden

An update on our new build garden! We still need to reseed the grass and plant the border plants. I am quite happy with how it's looking!

Finally got our Inster!

We have solar panels and a battery in place, so the natural thing to do for us was to finally get an EV. We had one diesel and one petrol car, and we just decided to let them both go and share one car between us (I work from home full time and husband works night shifts all the time so there is really no need for two cars). Per my calculations, we will be saving between £75-£145/month depending on tariffs and whether it is a sunny day or not. As husband works night shift, we can't really fo the overnight tariffs for EVs but we are on Octopus Agile, and plan to charge when the rates are low or on very sunny days when our solar panels generate too much electricity. Really excited about our new car!
