1st grade!

1st Grade is almost here!

Or maybe it’s already started for some of you!
What is everyone’s school asking for in terms of supplies? Anything surprising, oddly specific, or way more than you expected?

And the bigger question… are we ready?!
I feel like summer absolutely flew by! Trying to fit in all the last minute adventures.

Brag about your kid!

I know it’s not Saturday and seriously this summer is just flying by!

Let’s do a brag post! I am not sure if we are you through some mental leaps or what but I am seeing so many great changes! More insightful and patient.

This is your permission to just say all the great things your kid has accomplished or things you are so proud of.
Not in a competitive way. Not in a “my kid is better than yours” way. Just… proud parent stuff.
I feel like we don’t say this stuff out loud enough
without worrying how it sounds, so this is the spot.

For mine:

Today, we met my cousin for lunch for an early birthday. She asked him if we should sit inside or outside and he said “since you are the birthday girl I think you should choose and I will be happy with whatever you choose”
I know it’s simple, but it was sweet and just so mature it made me realize that he is growing up.

Looking to the future

Hello everyone!
We’re all doing our best to help our kids grow into happy, successful people, and I’m always interested in hearing what other families are doing.
What does that look like in your house?
Are your kids involved in sports, clubs, music, or other activities? Do you do any extra educational activities at home?

For our family, one thing we’re intentionally working on is resilience. Surprisingly, one of the biggest helpers has been playing games together! Whether it’s board games, card games, Mario Party, or Mario Kart, we choose games where he isn’t going to win right away and has to keep trying. It’s been a great way to practice handling disappointment, celebrating small improvements, and sticking with something even when it’s hard.
(That said… he’s beaten me in the last two games of Mario Party, so I am going to have to opt for harder games soon)

I’d love to hear what’s been working for your family!

Royal Genie Add on

Ok- has anyone actually added on the Royal Genie?
Of course I love the idea of having someone to fetch you a martini while you …. Bask in the sun? I am probally not the target audience as the price alone is way out of my budget.
For fun I did the math since we have the Key, Drink and dining package but even if we refund all that the Genie is still an additional $5k. Plus tip of course. Still could not justify it.

But I would love to know if anyone else has!
Bonus if you booked the cheapest interior and then added this on.

Edit: for anyone doing cost comparisons to maybe what they are being offered - this is for a 16 night cruise on Navigator

Summer activities

Here is central Oregon we are on our last week of school.

What does everyone have planned for the summer?
Are you focusing on:
Academic growth (summer school, workbooks, reading challenges, library programs, etc.)
Social growth (camps, sports, playdates, community activities)
Emotional growth (building independence, confidence, responsibility, helping around the house)
Or are you taking the approach that kids have worked hard all year and deserve a break?
Also, is anyone considering a low-screen or no-screen summer? If so, what does that look like for your family?
I’d love to hear what everyone is doing, what’s worked in the past, and any ideas for keeping our future Class of 2038 kiddos learning and growing while still enjoying summer.

Weekly Kid Brag Post! 🎉

Big wins, little wins, funny moments, proud parent stories… drop them all here.

Did your kid master something new? Say something hilarious? Crush a school project? Finally sleep through the night? We want to hear it.

One day these kids will probably be on Reddit themselves and can do their own bragging 😅

Oura ring down the drain

On Mother’s Day my son decided to do a “science experiment.”

The experiment was putting my Oura ring down the bathroom sink to “see what happens” (this is my bad for taking the ring off and not immediately putting it on the charger)

By the time I realized what was happening, it was too late. I tried taking apart the trap, but nothing was there.

So, take it from me and do not have your ring anywhere near the sink!

When I grow up I am going to …..

This week my son had to answer the prompt:
When I grow up, I want to be a _____.

His answer was:
“A history teacher… or maybe I want to be on TV talking about history and tanks and submarines.””

It fits in to his current interests and I could see him as a teacher.

So now I’m curious:
What did your kid say they want to be when they grow up?
Bonus points for the funny, oddly specific, or completely unexpected answers.

Ok - it’s Saturday so let’s all brag a little and not feel judged for wanting to brag.

This is your permission to just say all the great things your kid has accomplished or things you are so proud of.
Not in a competitive way. Not in a “my kid is better than yours” way. Just… proud parent stuff.
I feel like we don’t say this stuff out loud enough without worrying how it sounds, so this is the spot.

I’ll go first: my kid is really into reading. We have upgraded to chapter books and I just got him into choose your own adventure books (the same ones I read as a kid, but I was probally 8 and not 5). He likes to read to me at bedtime which is pretty amazing.

Alright, your turn.

Curious to hear real experiences here.

A lot of parents stress over whether to redshirt or start kindergarten on time.

You are in this group - so you already made that call. How do you feel about it now?

Any regrets, surprises, or things you wish you’d known?
