Recommendations for help with moving?

I am moving out of my apartment and need help moving basic things like love seats, a mattress, desks, and (a pretty heavy) entertainment table down 3 flights of stairs into a U-Haul. Maybe also moving them into the new place afterward. I don't really have any strong friends, and I'm a student, so I don't know anyone I could ask for help with this stuff. Are there any companies that handle just the moving part, not the transportation, at a relatively reasonable price?

Bath & Body Works need gone ASAP

I’m moving in a few weeks and realized I have a TON of Bath & Body Works products that I definitely don’t need to bring with me.

I was laid off about a month ago, which is also part of the reason I’m moving, so I’d really love to sell what I can and make a little money back. That said, I know things are tough for a lot of people right now, so I’m also happy to give away some items to anyone who could really use new self-care products but might not be able to justify spending money on them right now.

I have a bunch of different products/scents. If you’re interested in anything, feel free to message me. I’d especially love to bundle things together if anyone wants multiple items.

I also have a few candles and a LOT of wallflowers.

Is it normal to be required to pay a $2,850 security deposit and admin fees before even being allowed to read the lease? (Texas)

Hi everyone,

I'm renting a home in Texas and was approved on July 24th. In the approval email, I was told I needed to come to their leasing office (which is over 2 hours away) and pay the administrative fee and security deposit by July 28th. They also noted that their office is closed on weekends, so I effectively only had two days to make arrangements.

I replied asking a few questions, including:

  • When would I receive the lease to review?
  • What would my updated total be after one of my ESAs was approved?
  • Whether the deadline had any flexibility because we both work full-time.

They finally responded and told me that they do not send the lease until after the security deposit has been paid and a move-in date has been scheduled, and that is a bit of a concern for me. They're asking me to pay approximately $2,850 (security deposit plus admin fees) before I'm even allowed to read the lease. I asked if I could review the lease first, or alternatively whether the security deposit would be refunded if I decided not to sign after reading it, and I'm currently waiting for a response.

Is this a normal practice? I understand paying a deposit after signing a lease, but paying several thousand dollars before even seeing the contract seems like a huge risk to me.

There was also another issue during the application process. I have an ESA, and I was instructed by Findigs to list them as regular pets and pay the $25 verification (Findigs) fee, then submit my updated ESA documentation afterward. I've since learned that charging fees related to requesting an ESA accommodation may not be permitted, so that has me questioning the process as well.

Has anyone rented from a property management company that does things this way? Is this common, or are these red flags? At this point I'm wondering if I should walk away and accept the money I've already spent on the application as a loss.

Denton Public Library Survey for UNT Library Science Assignment (5 Minutes)

Hi everyone!

I'm a student at UNT completing a paper focused on the Emily Fowler Central Library and the Denton Public Library system.

As part of the project, I created a short survey to learn about how Denton residents use (or don't use) the public library. The survey is not affiliated with the Denton Public Library, the City of Denton, or UNT, and the results will only be used for a class paper.

The survey takes about 3-5 minutes to complete. Responses are anonymous, and you do not need to be a current library user to participate. In fact, hearing from people who don't use the library is just as helpful.

If you're a Denton resident (or regularly spend time in Denton), I'd greatly appreciate your participation.

Thank you for helping with my assignment!

Birthday Freebies for specifically ON your birthday?

For my birthday, I'm travelling halfway across the U.S. from Dallas to Atlanta via roadtrip, and I'd love to know if anyone knows any local and/or large chains that offer discounts or free items, specifically ONLY on your birthday.
