I Need 3 Hands to Stack my Dog 😩

I am completely new to this and my breeder is in another state. We do talk but I could use a little more advice.

My puppy is four months old and I feel like I need three hands to stack him. One to hold the leash, one to hold the bait, and one to move his feet.

If I loosen the leash he gets so wiggly aiming for the bait. If I drop the bait he completely loses interests. Therefore I can never position his feet. How can we work on this?

“Friendly” Dogs Growling at My Puppy

We have met several dogs that I ask “Is your dog friendly?” and the owner says “Yes.” Then the adult dog proceeds to growl, snap, and lunge at my puppy.

It has even happened when the owner came up to ME asking if they can meet the puppy, saying their dog is friendly. Their dog is giving tense body language and once within reach of my puppy lunges insanely with hair standing up.

Should I just never let my puppy meet other dogs? It seems like such a normal thing. I thought this is an important time for him to meet and play with other dogs. But it seems like every dog is a jerk! And why are the owners under the impression that their growling dog is exhibiting friendly behavior?! I want to protect my puppy but I want him to play with other dogs too, what can I do?

By the way my puppy has the funniest reaction to all this. He is like 😮🤨😛 but I’m worried HE could become reactive from the negative experiences.

Learn From My Mistake: Do Not Confront!!!

I am the type of person who isn’t shy about conflict; I’m also nice. Like many of you I found this forum because I am having a problem with another tenant in my apartment complex. Let me tell you I was ALWAYS upvoting the comments like “Just be an adult and talk to your neighbor” and thought the people saying “Report everything to management” were being dramatic.

Well about TWO MONTHS ago I confronted my neighbor in the nicest way possible IMO, asking if she can keep it down during quiet hours. I think I went about it in the best way: I saw her in a neutral common area during the day, I introduced myself, I said I’ve been hearing yelling and it just kinda made me worried if everything is ok, it’s kinda disconcerting hearing yelling at 2AM. She seemed cool although her explanation for the yelling didn’t make any sense (she gets off work late ???) I was just like ok but in my head thinking well it happens literally every night so wtf.

Whatever, I started my log to send to management, not much else I can do. Management predictably has done nothing which is one reason I always agreed with the advice to confront.

Well DONT. Yesterday she comes up to me in the common area super aggressive and tells me someone fucked with her shit and she knows it was me, not to mess with her stuff and she will fucking kill me. I don’t have any idea what she’s talking about but now I’m super nervous!

It made me realize something: people who are bad neighbors don’t give a shit, so confronting them doesn’t do anything. Like if your neighbor is a good one, and is being loud, at some point they’re gonna realize they’re being loud and quiet down. And make the effort to be more quiet in the future. But if they’re trash they don’t care and confronting them isn’t going to suddenly make them “aware” of their behavior—they know what they’re doing and they know it inconveniences others and they don’t care. They probably get off on it somehow tbh

If you let them know you’re unhappy with them and someone ELSE is also unhappy they’re always going to blame you because you’re the one they’ve seen. That’s what happened to me.

Pets Are Expensive. Get Comfortable with Basic Home Remedies

I realize this is kind of a weird post here but the pet subs don’t allow “medical advice” and I really want to share this personal finance / pet ownership tip that has saved me thousands of dollars.

Pets are really expensive and their medical care can make or break the bank. Pet insurance has come to fill the gap but is also really expensive. You deserve to have a healthy pet and it’s actually pretty sad how owning a pet is getting so cost prohibitive.

One thing you can do is get comfortable with basic home remedies. I recommend buying a book and reading it cover to cover so you’re prepared immediately (you don’t want to be stressed researching online if you should go to the vet or not, you want to be ready and able to say “I remember reading about this—let me take 1 min to pull off the shelf and review.”)

I had this book; downside it’s old:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1142926

Most dramatic accidents with my pets and my friends pets I was able to solve:

Dog was hit by a car. I knew I couldn’t afford the emergency vet. She was limping and whimpering but no blood, ran my hands over her and didn’t find any breaks (the book will explain how to do this.) Kept her in her basket and enforced rest, watching for injury. When I finally got her to the vet she was totally fine.

Dog fight. (Not my dog.) Dog had a bite puncture on its muzzle. Washed and cleaned with iodine especially after meal times. Dog was perfectly fine after 2 days.

Dog got shot by a rancher. (Not my dog.) Non-critical puncture. Closed it with styptic powder.

Obviously these are extreme examples and I don’t recommend you not take your dog to the vet if it’s shot. I’m just illustrating that you can solve many issues at home.

Almost all cuts and punctures can be cleaned with peroxide or iodine and closed with styptic powder. Almost all phantom injuries like limping and soreness can be cured with rest. Diarrhea, offer plain pedialyte in the water bowl. Dog ate something he shouldn’t, know the signs of poisoning, watch for 1-2 days and if he’s pooping he’s probably fine.

Again if you’re uncomfortable PLEASE GO TO THE VET. I just don’t think it’s fair so many people are priced out of pet ownership. I also have soooo many friends who run to the vet for non-issues and walk out with huge bills.

Learn a few home remedies and you’ll be more comfortable triaging the issue. It’s a little education that will save you a ton of money AND anxiety when they are sick.

Help My Dad Watch TV & intl Sports

My dad is low income and spends too much money on cable TV. He would also like to watch soccer games airing in Europe this summer.

I know there is a box you can buy and it has “TV” on it for free but I don’t know where to buy it or how to set it up. He is under the impression we need a VPN for any of this to work. Is he correct? Could someone ELI am very very stupid? We are in east side Los Angeles by the way if it helps.
