Garlic scapes we’re ready so I made some pesto this year

Some poppies popped up among my garlic. I thinned any that were too close to a bulb but let the others go. Love the mix.

Lemon verbena planted beside my patio set so I can rub the leaves occasionally when sitting outside

Using some of the mint from my garden

I use a common spearmint for these cookies. I also started growing chocolate mint thinking it would be great but ultimately the spearmint is better in these cookies

Calamondin orange cake

This cake was so much fun to make. Citrus really does carry a mood-lifting scent. I grow a calamondin tree mostly for the flowers to perfume my home in winter. The calamondins are nature’s Warhead candy, sour followed by a hint of sweet especially when including the rind. But I didn’t want to eat so many straight up nor waste them. I found a recipe on My Delicious Blog to try my hand at a calamondin orange Bundt cake.

Strawberry plants will survive but frost can kill the flowers and leave us with no strawberries for the season. Cover ‘em up
