I just need to vent because I genuinely cannot believe this happened.

Back in 2025, I signed up for TELUS internet. The account manager I was dealing with offered me Optik TV as a free bonus/add-on with my internet. I accepted because it wasn’t costing me anything extra.

Except the TELUS installation was not successful.
I contacted the account manager afterward and explained what happened and that I didn’t need the TV service. I was under the impression that this was being dealt with and that there was nothing else I needed to do. I distinctly remember being told that there was no further action needed.

Apparently, there WAS further action needed, because somehow this account stayed active, accumulated charges, and eventually got sent to collections.

I didn’t even know this had gotten to that point until I was dealing with the collection agency. I ended up paying it just to get the situation resolved and stop the account from hanging over me.

And now my credit score has been absolutely f because of a collection that, as far as I understood, should never have existed in the first place.

The collection agency has since given me a Letter of Release confirming that the account is settled in full, fully resolved and closed, and that I have no further financial obligations.

I’m now fighting with TELUS to figure out how the hell this happened and trying to get the collection removed from my credit report.

The worst part is that I can’t currently find the email where the account manager responded to me saying there was no further action needed. I have the email where I told him about the failed installation, and I have the original emails showing that Optik TV was offered as part of my internet package, but I may have accidentally permanently deleted his response.

I’m now requesting my records from TELUS to see whether they have internal account notes, communications, installation records, cancellation records, etc. that document what happened.

It’s just incredibly frustrating to have your credit damaged over something that you genuinely believed had already been dealt with - and then have to spend your own money to clean up a mess you didn’t create.
