Abandoned Train Tunnel, Tasmania

The Abandoned Train Tunnel in the northern Tasmanian hamlet of Tunnel is a historic 704-metre railway passage built between 1885 and 1889. Originally part of the Launceston-to-Scottsdale North-Eastern Line, it is so historically unique to the region that the surrounding town and train station were named after it.

How to Get There

The tunnel is located a few kilometres past Lilydale in North East Tasmania. To visit, drive down the unsealed Tunnel Road turning off Golconda Road, then turn onto Tunnel Station Road where a small parking area is located just 200 metres from the tunnel entrance.
