24/7 Access

I'm working on leaving Gym Master and switching key fob systems. Basically all I need is 24/7 access for up to 300 people who can be individually tracked as being in the building. I do not need to take payments (I really like Square for that), so Gym Master is very overkill for us. But, Gym Master is cheap, so I'm also debating staying with them for the key fob access only aspect, and running the gym dues payments through Square Subscriptions. Thoughts?

Opening a Boutique Personal Training Studio

I'm a full time trainer (30-40 sessions / week) going all-in and opening my own boutique personal training studio. 1 on 1s, small groups, couples, and designated times for individuals to drop in and complete their personalized program in the space where I will be present and walking around available for questions and form checks, etc. I also have 1 trainer paying rent to use the space for their business, and would like to add 1 or 2 other trainers who are also 100% independent, paying space rent. What is some advice for me at this early stage (just signed the lease) and is there anyone doing a similar model that is willing to let me text them questions as I go? I have been training at a boutique studio for 5 years and feel it is time to take my clients and open my own place... Thank you!

Personal Training Studio versus Gym

Hi all. Full time PT here considering opening a small PT studio, or buying an existing 24/7 key fob gym. What are the pros and cons? The biggest cons that stand out to me for the public gym, is greater equipment wear and tear, and higher cost lease (bigger space). But, the memberships cover the cost of the lease, and any PT sessions are my income. The cons that I see with a PT studio, is that there is no such thing as passive income since I have to BE there to make money, so the product is me and there are no memberships. Discuss! Thank you!

Personal Training Only Studio

Debating opening a PT only studio. I already have 30-40 sessions per week and can bring all those clients with me. Could add a few trainers renting space and running their independent business with their own clients in the space. What are the pros and cons of this model? Anyone doing this already, if so how do you structure it to make money without getting stuck in the rat race of your income being capped by how many hours you're willing to put in? Hybrid of PT sessions, PT rentals, and Programs that clients independently follow in the space? TY in advance

1,280sqft Gym?

Anyone have a facility this size and willing to show photos of how you configured it? Or link your website. Looking into opening a personal training space that also sells limited (50) key fob memberships. (Currently renting space in another facility and making $100K so this feels like the next right move). Thank you! OPEN TO ADVICE AS WELL

Policy for clients who take long vacations

I have a couple of clients who take 1 month off, two times per year. They have each, separately asked me how they can support my business while they are away (we love these clients!!!) Honestly, I don't know. For the first client, I just asked if she wanted to pay for her next package in advance so I could get paid early. But that doesn't necessarily help offset, since she's going to come back and spend those sessions. The second client offered to pay for 50% of the missed sessions (since we train Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, for $300/ week total, I charge her card $150/ week). Any ideas? Or just forget about it and try to fill their spots with clients who have been on my waitlist? These clients train with me 3 times per week at $100/ session so it's a big income hit. I'm not so concerned about "I'll be out this week" clients, but the month long peeps freak me out financially.

PS I just quit my full time 130K job to train full time, so I'm extra eggy about money right now!

Group Ideas

Hi PT Community! I'm looking for ideas for my gym members, PT clients, and even non-members/clients to connect to build community. Example: Weekly Run Club. Any other ideas? Would you charge for this or make it free? Goal is to build community while spreading awareness of the gym, training, and brand.

When did you know it was time to go full time?

I need help. I have a 40 hour a week job that pays 130K, working for someone else (gross). I also own a personal training business that is making me 80K (gross). As you can imagine, this isn't sustainable, and I'm tired (working 60+ hours/ week). I'm really considering going full time on personal training because I bet if I put more effort into marketing, I could go from 80K to much more. How did you decide to make that plunge? Have I lost my mind? I'm craving flexibility, autonomy, and honestly, just curious if I can make it on my own.

EDIT: I QUIT MY FULL TIME JOB HOLY SHIT BALLS YOU GUYS

Quitting my Job

Hello! I am struggling to pass the EPPP. I currently work 32 hours per week at $125,000 pre-licensed, top of my pay band. I'm told once I'm licensed, it goes to $130,000, top of the pay band. I believe 130K for a licensed psychologist (Bay Area, CA), is low. I have savings. I'm thinking about quitting this job to focus on getting licensed as quickly as possible. But of course this scares me, as this job is a nice salary for a pre-licensed person, I'm good at it, been there for a long time, etc. The downside is, I find it very hard to find study time with this job in my life (caretaker for sick family on the weekends). Any thoughts or advice? Thank you

I have a great 30 hour job i love but I also desire to have a *small* gym for my personal training + hybrid coaching clients. I'm envisioning a small studio to train them in, and give each of them a key to have access to use the space to fulfill their program without me. I imagine I would cap at 50 "memberships." Anyone do this or something similar? How is that going?
