Update 2 on 10 month old Mavis
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to give an update on my 10 month old leopard gecko Mavis who was put under today for a blood test!
they managed to get a really good amount of blood from Mavis which was a relief.
Apparently she took absolutely ages to get sleepy 😭 the vet said it took around 5 hours and even then she never fully went under, so they ended up doing the blood draw while she was basically just very dopey rather than fully asleep. She was apparently “good as gold” throughout though.
The vet actually sounded more hopeful today. She said Mavis’ bone density looked really good on the x-rays so severe calcium deficiency/MBD seems unlikely, which is reassuring.
At this point the main concern is just whether there’s any underlying issue affecting the kidneys/liver that’s caused this to happen so young. If those results come back okay enough then the likely route is surgery/spay.
They’ve also given us EmerAid to feed her if she continues not eating enough insects. She’s home now and very sleepy but otherwise okay after the sedation.
They gave her some fluids as well during the blood test so she’s got a saggy armpit lol.
But overall it’s still looking like it’s Follicular stasis with free fluid but the vet is leaning towards the fluid being inflammation fluid rather than anything infected.
We won’t get the results till Friday but it’s looking hopeful and the vet is looking more hopeful for Mavis’s recovery after today 🩵🙏
