Day one at home post-amputation and FHO
My precious Siamese girl was hit by a car and two of her hind legs were broken. She has one amputated due to the severity of the break, and an FHO procedure done on the other leg. She miraculously avoided major organ damage and internal bleeding. She had surgery on Monday, was kept overnight for observations and pain mgmt until wed morning when we picked her up and drove home (four hour drive).
I’m being overly paranoid I’m sure but so far since being home she’s just pulling herself around on the carpet by her front claws. Sometimes she’ll flop her lower body to get to where she wants to go. She hasn’t seem to have attempted to stand up at all. Is this normal?
She is eating and I think I caught her drinking some water yesterday. She also made her way to the litter box today and peed a little inside of it and a little on the pee pad just outside (she did this while I was asleep).
Currently I have her in a half open dog crate on my bed with warm blankets. She is calmest when she’s physically close to me. Does anyone have any tips or reassurances? I feel so bad for my baby and I want to know she won’t be like this forever.
