Avoid like the plague
Such a scummy restaurant! First of all the menu prices are all wrong and so you think you’re paying one thing but they charge you something completely different and when you confront them they say it’s an old menu from 2 months ago. Things cost $7 more in 2 months?
Second of all the food sucks, small portions, $34 for a curry that has 3 pieces of meat and 3 bones.
Third of all food takes so long, we called ahead for one item and even then it took really long, staff your kitchen properly. Not only that but they didn’t have the burgers or poutine.
The owner tried to blame the poor young server for not informing us of the old menu! It’s not her problem!! She tried her best to give good service it’s an unfortunate the owner is a scum. Avoid like the plague.
My best Dollarama find
Found this bunny lamp for $5!! There was also a blue hippo and a purple bunny as well!! I love mine so much🩷🩷🩷
Quietly fired for calling in sick
I’ve been working as a server for the past two months. It’s my first serving job so a lot of the unwritten rules I don’t really know yet.
I was doing pretty well for my first serving job but recently I made a mistake with an order and my manager got really mad at me telling me I’m moving slow and how everybody’s faster than me. (Everyone else there has 5+ years of experience) since then I have been trying my best to do better/ faster and I think I have. But last week I called in sick for three days because of my sinus infection. And the manager said it was OK since it was raining and she was gonna cut people anyways.
Now that I see I’m only scheduled once for the next two weeks. I posted about it on the server Reddit and everybody keeps telling me how calling in sick is the worst mistake you can make as a new server. And how I should’ve gone anyways. A lot of people are telling me the restaurant sees me as unreliable but I fail to see how I’m unreliable for calling in sick when I am actually sick? Everyone is sharing stories about how coughing and sneezing is nothing and I should just suck it up.
Reading the comments made me realize exactly what I don’t want to become.
Am I being quietly fired?
I’ve been serving here for 2 months and it’s my first ever serving job. I’ve definitely made some mistakes but nothing MAJOR. My manager had a talk with me after I messed up an order and forgot to add onions and she kind of went off on me. She told me I’m slower compared to everyone else (everyone else there is an experience server) but since then I feel like I’ve been really improving and had a good conversation with her. Well unfortunately I got really sick the following week and had to miss work for 3 days where I was told it’s raining so she’ll just cut my shift and she told me it was okay. Well now for the past two weeks I’ve been getting one shift a week….which is highly unusual I usually work 4-5 days! So I’m not sure if she just wants me gone? So I just texted her asking her what I can do and how I need some transparency so I know where I stand. But does this look familiar to anyone else??
Why is basic nutrition 120 not available?
I’m trying to take basic nutrition 120 for pre-nursing and all the classes offered both terms are all off the main campus! There is only an online class for it I was able to sign up for. But I prefer to have it in person. Is there something I’m missing I thought for an important class there would be more options? Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong
How do you balance being fast but also not making mistake?
I’m a new server only been doing it for 3 weeks and I have been told to be faster on the iPad. Which is completely reasonable but I’m new and that’s something that comes with practice. I feel like if I rush the iPad I’m prone to making more mistakes which I also get in trouble for. So how do I do both? Be fast but also make no mistakes? Is there something I’m missing? Please no mean comments I just want to learn and be better. Thank you
Need some words of encouragement
Hey guys, I have only been serving for 3 weeks. It’s my first serving job. I have been doing pretty well other than a couple of mistakes I have made.
But today I made a mistake on a modification for a dish and I had to take it back. On top of that I had to use the washroom because I’m on my period and I just really needed to go and all my drinks of multiple tables came out at this time so other people had to run it. My manager got pretty upset at me. She pulled me aside and let me know how I’m not being fast on my feet and I need to be faster with the iPad. She told me I walk around like I’m taking my sweet time but I really don’t see that. I do think I work really hard and I hustle but because I’m not experienced I do have to think about things before I do them it doesn’t come automatic for me yet. I just let her know I’m so sorry for mistake tonight and I felt like last few weeks have been really good and I’ve had really good days and she told me from what she heard I didn’t. Which just really hurt me because I really don’t agree because I’ve had compliments from other managers and I felt like I’ve been doing really good I made great tips as well.
So to hear this, it just was really discouraging. This was in the middle of my shift so I just apologized and told her I’m taking her feedback seriously and went back to doing my job.
But I just got home and I can’t help feeling like I’m failing at this and I can’t keep up with experienced servers yet. I feel scared that if I make any more mistakes, I’m going to be fired. Which is scary because I’m still learning. I really want to be a server and get better at it, but I need more practice. Any words of encouragement will really help me. Thank you.
TLDR: rough shift as a new server looking for encouragement
