Camera recommendations

Hi y’all, reptile and tarantula breeder here. I’m looking for something in the $500-$800 range to take professional(ish) looking photos of snakes and tarantulas. To be clear: I know how to use the camera on my iPhone (kind of, I’ve never messed with the settings). I know nothing about photography. All I know is “want to take good picture of snake” and I have no idea how to even begin looking for the right camera. Any advice or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Question about fixative for wet specimens

Hi y’all, reptile breeder in here. Unfortunately with this last batch of babies (we had around 60 eggs), 2 failed to thrive, and I would like to make them into wet specimens. My question is about fixative. Ideally I’d like to avoid formalin and, from what I’ve read, you don’t necessarily need to use formalin as a fixative for small specimens. I’ve read that you can use ethanol, but the percentage has varied between 70% and 80-90%. I can find 95% online. Is that too much? Do I need to dilute with distilled water? Also, I’m seeing a lot of ethyl alcohol, denatured, is that the same thing? I guess I don’t really know the difference between denatured and not denatured ethanol for these purposes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

ISO “horror books everyone should read”

I’ve read Dracula, Frankenstein, Carmilla, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Mayfair Witch series by Anne Rice. Hell, I’ve even read Northanger Abbey lol. Most recently my husband has gotten me into the Necroscope series, which he refers to as “diet horror”. I’d like to stay away from Stephen King because he’s made some weird comments lately, but I’m down for whatever else!

Question about set up

Hey y’all, so I’m interested in keeping Sea Monkeys. I’m wondering what everyone’s set ups are like? I know I need to get an air stone, instant ocean, a heater, a small aquarium, and to use distilled water, but I’m wondering what size aquarium would be suitable? I currently keep snakes and spiders as pets, but I’ve never done anything aquatic so I’m a little confused on how everything is supposed to be set up. Any links would be greatly appreciated, too!

Books like Gideon the Ninth?

So I just finished The Locked Tomb series and I’m OBSESSED. 10/10, no notes. It’s my best friend’s favorite book series and I would have never picked it up if she hadn’t recommended it to me as I never really thought I’d be into Sci-Fi (I’ve definitely been missing out). Does anyone have any recommendations that are similar? Bonus points if it’s sapphic, but it doesn’t have to be!

I lost an entire tarantula in my kitchen today

Homemade ramen, clementine, lime La Croix

So, I keep spiders as pets and have around 40 of them in total. I love my spiders, I’ve been keeping for 3 years now, and have never had an escape (until today). I was rehousing my Y. diversipes sling (tiny baby, only about the size of a dime) and she just bolted. I’ve torn apart my entire kitchen looking for her and she’s just gone. I’m not worried about her hurting anyone as her venom is not medically significant even as an adult, let alone as a tiny sling, but I am worried about her as she likely wont be able to survive very long on her own.

I know most people don’t like spiders, but please save the “burn your house down” or “I’d never come over to your house” comments. I get it. They’re not popular pets and a lot of people are scared of spiders, but I love them and they’re special to me.

Pic of the species is not mine, but look at how beautiful they are!
