Looking for new mods, application instructions below
A few weeks ago I made a post apologizing for my lack of action as a moderator, asking for feedback and advice on how to go on.
I got plenty of good responses, most suggested the idea of adding more mods to help me out, and after thinking about it for a bit (and admittedly some procrastination as well) I decided that is indeed the right course of action.
Since becoming moderator of this subreddit over 7 years ago(!!!) I’ve also become a mod of two other neurodivergence subreddits (even getting to lead the mod team for r/aspiememes, shoutout to u/lethalogicax in particular) both much larger than this one, so the time I spent on moderation duties had been spread thin over time.
You might’ve also noticed that I added a rule banning AI generated posts and comments as well, but besides that I’ve had some trouble coming up with new rules and configuring the mod tools to ease my workload.
So without further ado I’d like to open the application process for adding 1-2 new mods here, for anyone interested please comment with your reasons for applying, any relevant experience and any changes you aim to introduce if you were to become a mod, as well as anything else you think might be helpful to mention. If I am interested in your application I will DM you for further steps.
There’s isn’t really a deadline on this but I aim to get it done in max two weeks, and any new mods I appoint will first go through a trial period where they show that they’re acting in good faith and put the needs of the community first.
Thank you for your attention and have a nice day!
I know it’s a mirai, but would this be r/spotted material?
Found this beautiful Toyota Mirai parked at a random gas station close to the German-Dutch border, first hydrogen car I’ve ever seen irl
I must apologize to this community, as a moderator
If anyone has noticed some posts with problematic content staying up far longer than they should, it’s because I must admit I’ve been neglecting my duties as a moderator for the past few months.
It’s wonderful to see how much the community has grown over the years, when I joined there were less than 500 members, and now that number has risen to 12.000! The art and other creations I see appear in my feed are so good.
But with this increased activity comes increased attention from bad actors or people who mean well but sorely misunderstand the point of this subreddit.
I’ve noticed that the time and energy I spend on moderation is decreasing due to a combination of factors, so instead of making an empty promise to do better I ask for feedback and suggestions of how to proceed. Maybe that means having another moderator or two on the team to help me, maybe it means a complete transfer of duties, maybe it’s just some minor changes. But whatever it is, I want to hear from you, the community, what your needs and desires are regarding this issue!
I need your input on this, thanks for your attention!
Inspired by a post from over 2 years ago: what historical event or figure would be a fitting subject for a new song?
There are many great options but personally I’d love a song of the siege and subsequent liberation of Leiden during the 80 years war.
During 1573 and 1574 Leiden was under siege by the Spanish, who intended to starve the city into submission. An estimated 6000 people died from famine and disease, about half of the population at the time. It got to the point that the mayor willingly sacrificed his own body to feed the citizens. The situation looked hopeless.
That was until October 2nd 1574, when late at night the dykes protecting the surrounding farmland were purposely broken to flood the polders and drive out the Spanish, and on the following morning a group of mercenaries called the Watergeuzen arrived in flat-bottomed ships sailing over the flooded fields to drive out the last of the Spanish and bring food to the city.
It turned out that the Spanish left in such a hurry that they left a lot behind, including a large pot of stew (‘hutspot’ in Dutch), which was also handed out to the citizens of Leiden. This event is called Leids ontzet, it was a pivotal point in the 80 years war and October 3rd is a public holiday in Leiden that’s celebrated to this day with much enthusiasm. People eat hutspot, herring and white bread, and they dance and sing, schools are closed and most people even get a free day off work.
I think this would be a fantastic subject for a new Sabaton song, for obvious reasons. I’m curious if others have other suggestions for impactful or evocative events or historical figures that would make for great songs?
Suggestion for Wube: give is the option to enable the starmap from the start of a playthrough
Pretty much what the title says, I often want to look at the starmap when I start a new game, especially if I’m running some new planet mods, but currently that’s not possible until a rocket has been launched, so it would be nice to have the option to enable it from the start. Thanks in advance!
I’ve seen this car parked here since I was little, and only just realized it’s a TVR
This car has been parked right here for at least 15 years now, if not longer, and I could never figure out what it was. Granted I was never really into cars, but still. A few months ago I learned about the existence of TVR (rip), and just now I took a closer look at this car and noticed their logo on the bonnet, so that solved part of the mystery for me. But im also curious what model it is?
