This is some general help for everyone considering UET Lahore who wants to know if it is actually worth it.

To start, all of its engineering degrees have good market value and the university's name is well-regarded. I have spent one year at UET and I get a lot of respect at home; my mother feels very proud telling people her son studies there.

However, the reality check is that life at UET Lahore is not easy:

1. Internet Connectivity

   The university internet is at its worst all the time. In the hostels, signal strength is very inconsistent depending on your network provider:

   (a) In Zubair Hall, Jazz has a poor connection while Telenor works better.

   (b) In Iqbal Hall, Jazz is good but Telenor doesn't work well.

2. Student Accommodations

   The living conditions are quite miserable. You will be placed with two to three students in a room, or even four to six; it just depends on where you end up. I originally thought hostel allotments were merit-based, but that wasn't my experience. I was assigned a roommate with a 63 aggregate while mine was 84.The hostel corridors are mostly dark as they do not have well-lit bulbs. As far as the rooms are concerned, some are painted and some are not, but it really does not matter. On the first day, your room will look like hell to you, but after a month, you will get into the habit of living there.

No matter how used you are to having a room to yourself, that habit will be totally demolished by the system at UET Lahore. You will typically have a maximum of four roommates, though if you are assigned to a dormitory, you may have 6 to 10 roommates. Beyond that, you might have friends calling to sleep over, so overall, there will be quite a lot of mess.

3. Dining Options

   There are only four or five eating spots (excluding 4 hostel canteens) at UET Lahore. They all have waiters, but the quality is essentially the same as local dhabas or street food points. The taste of food is very inconsistent. One day you will have very great biryani, and the next day you will have a biryani that you would never dare to touch. The service is also an issue; whenever you ask the waiters to bring a clean glass for water, they will simply bring you a glass from another table or just rinse it out without using any soap.

If you do not expect anything more than this, you won't be disappointed. Good luck and feel free to ask whatever's in your mind.
