Steel Tide: a modern warfare RTS with cross-platform PvP and mod support (Classic RTS)

Hey everyone, I'm the developer of Steel Tide, an RTS inspired by the Rusted Warfare I grew up playing.

The basic loop will feel familiar: you start with engineers, metal deposits and a power grid. Army composition matters: artillery needs protection, submarines need sonar to find them, and rocket barrages have to get through point defenses.

  • Cross-platform PvP. Desktop, phone, tablet and browser players can join the same matches. You can also host your own dedicated server.
  • Terrain and weather that affect the fight. Towns channel vehicles through streets, buildings can be destroyed, and high ground matters. Rain reduces visibility, snow slows ground movement, and night gives reconnaissance and radar more work to do.
  • Research and specialist units. Doctrines, active abilities, veterancy, amphibious vehicles, transport aircraft, EMP strikes and nuclear weapons.
  • Single-player modes. A nine-mission campaign plus Conquest and Breakthrough against AI.
  • Maps and mods. A scenario editor, generated and community maps, and an in-game mod browser.

The full game is free to play in your browser, with no account required: Play Steel Tide

Store versions are paid once. There are no ads or in-app purchases. Downloads, the wiki and more details are on the official website.

If you try it, I’d love to hear your feedbacks.

I recreated 4 BFV Pacific maps as an RTS, command everything instead of one soldier

I'm a big fan of BFV, ever since I got my own PC. I've been building my own RTS game for a while, and I really wanted to bring the War in the Pacific into it, though it's a completely different genre.

So I ported 4 of BFV's Pacific maps into my game: Wake Island, Pacific Storm (yes, it's raining), and Solomon Island. The 4th is the Iwo Jima concept WIP.

Instead of controlling one soldier, you can command everything: naval, air, and land, all at once on these maps :)

If you want to try it: play.steelti.de (play right in your browser)

It's a free, no ads, no IAP indie project. Wondering how BF players would think about this. Yeah I know it's asymmetric, but I'd really like to see what happens. And of course there are 2 modes here: conquest and breakthrough.

I turned RW into a 2026 version (currently public beta)

I've played Rusted Warfare since I was 13, and like a lot of people here, I've been sad watching it sit without real updates. So a few weeks ago I started building my own version, from scratch - own engine, no game framework, solo.

Not here to sell anything, no launch yet, just wanted to share with people who'd actually get it.

Same basic idea as RW: top-down, large-scale battles, that's the DNA. Everything past that is different: it runs the same on PC, phone, and browser (real touch controls, not a shrunk-down desktop UI), it's got day/night and weather now, and there's a proper mod/map editor.

Genuinely want to know what long-time RW players think is missing from the genre, or what you'd want fixed if you could. Happy to answer anything.

If you want to try → https://play.steelti.de (play in your browser). It's still early, so expect bugs and balance problems.
