Rachel Reid Vancouver book tour

I'm going to this tonight and I want to know if anybody else who is attending, or would like to attend, would like to meet in real life to do a MM romance book club? We can meet up and gush in real life. I would like to discuss the books I'm reading and meet similar minds. I searched online for MM book clubs, but I'm afraid to discuss the books I read in a SFW club.

Regrets reading Neurovance by Alexandra St Pierre *Spoilers*

I enjoy friends to lovers books and I thought that the premise of the book reminded me of the movie, Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I should have looked up the tags for it to be honest because I wouldn't have touched it for how dark the themes are and the suicide of a chosen family member, Sebastian.

I'm in mourning now for a fictional character who I wished could have been saved and given a happily ever after. It was horrible of Luke to torture and maim and mentally assault both Jay and Sebastian, and kill Jay's father and imprison the Jay, Sebastian and Milo. I don't mourn his death.

But I deeply felt the loss of Sebastian. He is not without his faults and even NOVA warned him of not sharing his intentions with the others. He did what he thought was right and paid the price of it. I just want a happily ever for the characters truly deserving of one and I wanted Sebastian to find peace like how Milo helped Jay find closure.

He couldn't have allies or his father would find out and punish him. I understand how he felt abandoned after Jay left with Milo and I wished that he could have reunited with his chosen family after killing his father. His spirit visiting the couple at the pond and helping Jay find forgiveness for his actions was a nice send off, but it felt inadequate of an ending for Sebastian. It just reminded me that life is unfair and that a lot of people don't get happily ever afters.

Real life sucks right now and I enjoy reading MM romances to believe that one day, we all can have our happily ever afters even though it's wishful thinking. I wouldn't reread this book or any book that has a character dying tragically. I have enough of tragedy and I don't want to see my gays die.

Predictions for Unrivalled *Spoilers*

I predict that Shane will have a difficult time during the first half of the book adjusting to the Ottawa Centaurs and ceding control because he's used to being in the lead and his relationship with Ilya will suffer. They will lose a few games due to a lack of communication, in particular with a game against Montreal, and the two will snap at each other culminating in a giant argument.

They then talk to their friends and family and therapists, confront the truth they have been avoiding/hiding, realize that they are being dumb and then apologize to each other. Something bad then happens, like Ilya gets injured on the ice, scares the living daylights out of Shane and they reconcile after much tears and heart felt confessions followed by obligatory make up sex.

The two then proceed to win every game until they meet with the Montreal Voyagers in the finals. Although I hope that they kick their asses, I wonder if it'll make that too predictable and cliche. But I'm not reading romance novels for bittersweet endings that I can watch in a movie, so I'm confident that Ilya and Shane and the Ottawa Centaurs will win the cup.

What do you think will happen in Unrivalled? Although I'm hoping for a double date with Scott and Kip with Ilya and Shane, it's probably not going to happen.

A possible change from The Long Game *Spoilers*

After reading all six books, I'm wondering if instead of introducing Ryan Price and Fabian Salah, Jacob Tierney would have Ilya and Shane invite Scott Hunter to the charity camp and Scott in turn discovers their relationship. Scott then invites both of them to meet Kip at a local gay bar. Ilya would see how open Scott and Kip are about their relationship and get further upset with his circumstances of staying in the closet with Shane when the other couple start talking about their wedding plans.

To be honest, I want to have Scott and Kip invite Ilya and Shane to their wedding and have the scene where Ilya wants Shane to hold his hand during the wedding ceremony, but Shane is too afraid of blowing their cover to let him.

I feel bad that means writing Tough Guy out of the story, but I don't know how six episodes are going to be enough time to introduce Troy, Harris, Fabian and Ryan properly, and still have the focus on Ilya and Shane.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Saddest moment in the game for you *spoilers*

I found Lyudmila's last memory recorded in her daughter's birthday gift to be the most heartbreaking and I actually cried because the voice acting in the game is very well done. I guess my trigger is watching mothers say goodbye to their children.!< There were also other great emotional moments in the game, mostly involving Mao, but this was the only scene that made me cry.

Recruiting Ramses

I really appreciate that a high enough Personalism tells Hershel directly to let Ramses live out the remainder of his days rather than recruit him in another mission. It's a gentle prod to the player to pick an alternative. It felt to me like the kinder choice after you help him get his meds and seeing what goes down after getting an X ending.
