I built something I think this community would find useful

Hey everyone, I asked the mods and they're OK with me posting this.

I spend a lot of time on multi-day trips and hikes, and after enough bad situations with no signal I realised I needed an app that didn't exist. So I built LastBar.

It's a free app that maps real mobile coverage as you drive or hike, and combines that with signal maps from other users. When you're stuck with no signal, it points you to the nearest place your phone will work, and to the nearest water, shelter, clinic, police station or fuel, all offline. There's no account, no sign-in, and it only uses about 3% battery a day.

Android phones build most of the map, since iOS limits what the app can read in the background, but iPhone users can still see coverage data captured by other users and find signal based on that and cell tower locations.

The app is still new so the map is empty where nobody has been with it yet, but every drive, walk, or hike fills in the map for the next person. If you're planning an outing soon, I'd love for you to try it out and let me know what you think!

There's more info at https://lastbar.online/ if you'd like to take a look.

Ephemeros: free rephotography timelapses

Just soft-launched my app and would love feedback from this community.

What it does:

Users create "photo spots" on a shared map - each spot stores a baseline photo and the exact coordinates, compass heading, etc.

When others find that spot on the map and visit it, the previous photo renders as a ghost overlay on the camera viewfinder so you can align your shot with the original.

The backend assembles everyone's aligned photos into a timelapse showing how the view changed over days, months, and years.

Use Cases:

- Citizen scientists tracking rewilding projects, wetlands, glaciers, coastline shifts, etc.

- Hikers tracking how their favourite views change over time.

- Researchers tracking the effect of climate change on the landscape.

- Gardeners tracking how their plants change over time.

- History enthusiasts tracking buildings and monuments over time.

- Citizen activists tracking urban decay such as abandoned buildings, pothole growth, etc.

Key Features:

- Free, no ads, no paywall

- Public and private spots, private ones are only shared with people you add to a list

- Public map and timelapses viewable on the web without an account

- Researcher API available for public spots

- QR codes automatically generated per spot (for trail markers, garden signs, etc.)

Goal:

I'm especially interested in feedback on the things you'd like to track, and the camera alignment UX across different devices - the ghost overlay is the heart of the app and I want it to feel effortless on everything from budget phones to flagships.

The app also features an option for private photos in case you'd like to keep track of private land, custom lists, friend connections, and some gamification elements.

If you'd like to be added to the tester list, please send me a message with your Google Play account email address.
