some harsh but practical advice (and hope) for all the people who are filled with despair when it comes to surviving in the field of psychology in India

i think i will be leaving this subreddit, every other post is something negative and i understand why, people are frustrated and they have every right to be when figuring things out seems like a lot of struggle BUT at the same time negativity always piles up, ruins people's dreams and stops them even before they try first.

i am doing my master's in counseling psychology (2nd year) and i won't say i have everything figured out but based on all the research i have done, i am quite optimistic and looking forward to earn well in this field, i am not from some privileged background either BUT because i have good research skills and with all the amazing tools and AI we have at our disposal, it was quite easy to find out all the different paths i can take, i have multiple backup plans so i don't feel scared at all about my future in this field.

i am not saying i am better or anything, i am saying for the love of god, please be more resourceful, learn how to research well online, having interest in psychology is not enough to survive and thrive in this field, what you actually need to learn is marketing and sales, selling yourself to others and not expecting to be spoonfed, people post the basic things here without taking 10 secs to just go through old posts, that's not being resourceful at all, you can't survive if you're stuck in that mentality. i may sound harsh but if you're someone who's passionate about psychology and don't wanna compromise by jumping into another field and wanna earn and thrive here, please learn the skills i talked about. be shameless about marketing. skills are sadly secondary, obviously skill up but marketing is everything otherwise you'll be stuck in a corporate job you hate that has nothing to do with psychology.

also communication and social skills, god the amount of people in this field who don't know basic communication skills when that's the one skill you definitely need to have. you don't need to be an extrovert at all, you can be an introvert who happens to know how to talk well and is approachable. it's something you can learn even if you start now so do it ideally before you graduate.

regarding empathy and kindness, first off there are people in this field who lack any kind of empathy, i am sure all of us have encountered people like that and it doesn't make sense why they're doing psychology and secondly there are also people who are the opposite who have endless empathy and kindness BUT at the cost of themselves. both options suck, both options lead to unhappiness and burnout. so the number 1 rule is to have empathy, kindness and unconditional positive regard for yourself first and then your patients and everyone around you, if you don't have it for yourself you're not gonna last long so please love yourself as hard as you can.

just a brief summary so you can get started: psychological skills + research skills + communication + marketing + empathy + self love + initiative = success in this field.

i was lucky enough to do my bachelor's in an amazing & very rigorous course and i had extremely good faculty who gave us real insight into the field apart from the theoretical side. the field is stupidly different from what they teach you, it will almost seem like a joke because of how chaotic it is BUT within this chaos lies opportunities and money for those who are resourceful enough to find it and grab it. so don't lose hope please, take things with a grain of salt, do your own research, problems definitely exist in psychology in our country, it's not sunshine and rainbows but it's also not doom and despair. your path is what you make of it so be relentlessly optimistic.

mineta needs to be slimed istg

i know it's common sentiment and he gets some sort of one off redemption later but this piece of scum has no right to be called a hero or even a human. he doesn't even work as a comic relief, there's nothing funny about it, it's just cringe, i don't understand why he's necessary as a character for an anime which children also watch not just adults, because children will think since no one is reacting properly to mineta's antics (literal crimes?) at a proper degree it's something that's at least somewhat acceptable or doesn't have any bad repercussions and they might act like that with their peers. anyway, just a random concern, this post is more about just me venting my disgust and contempt towards this subhuman degenerate. thank for your attention to this matter.
