What was the building at 7th and Powell originally built as?

I've been curious about this place for years and have only known it to be a rotating location for weed stores.

It's a very specific shape and has the built on sign that has since had a billboard attached to it. (I'm just now realizing it has the propaganda rag ad from a few years ago in this street view screen cap 😂 jfc)

Anyway if I had to guess I was thinking perhaps it was an appliance store of some store in the 50s/60s.

Does anyone have any insight or even pictures of what used to be there throughout its life?

What's the most cost effective way to get into one of these?

I'm not interested in welding a receiver back together or a 3D printed one.

That said, is it worth it to put one together or should I just buy a finished product? Any builders to avoid?
