I made an Android app to track and manage your 3D printing filament inventory using NFC (SpoolTap)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an Android-exclusive app I’ve been developing called SpoolTap. It’s designed specifically for 3D printing hobbyists who want a faster, more reliable way to manage their filament inventory without relying on messy spreadsheets or locked proprietary ecosystems.

💡 What is SpoolTap?

SpoolTap turns your Android phone into an NFC-based filament scanner. Instead of manually typing in weights and material types every time you swap a roll, you can log, update, and check your inventory with a single tap.

✨ Key Features & Benefits

  • NFC Scanning for Supported Spools: Directly read and log data from filament manufacturers that already embed NFC tags in their spools.
  • Custom NFC Tag Writing: If you use standard third-party spools, you can write and link your own inexpensive NTAG stickers to any spool in your digital inventory.
  • Comprehensive Inventory Management: Keep a clear overview of your materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, etc.), exact colors, remaining weights, and manufacturer details.
  • Native Android Experience: Built from the ground up to feel fast, modern, and intuitive on Android devices.

🎯 My Feedback Goals

As I continue to refine the app, I am looking for constructive feedback from the community on two specific areas:

  1. NFC Compatibility: If you use spools with built-in NFC tags, how does the reading experience feel, and are there specific manufacturer tags you'd like to see better supported?
  2. Workflow & UI: Is the process of adding a new spool and updating its remaining weight quick enough for your daily printing workflow?

🚀 Download

SpoolTap is available on the Google Play Store: 👉Get SpoolTap on Google Play

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to your thoughts and constructive feedback!

My fist model (updated

Because the last post got deleted for ai images (yeah I know it wasn’t that smart) also is just a tool get over it, anyway I’m uploading again my free model

https://makerworld.com/en/models/3006039-miniature-suitcase-luggage-tags-nfc-enabled#profileId-3375826

It’s a fun concept, I know that NFC isn’t exactly safe to scan especially in an airport act but is a good use case for that kind of tech, the same logic applies to any QR code (or anything really you scan, copy or click without knowing exactly how it’s working or where it redirects you)

Anyway, a lot of you guys criticize hard my design and the use case and the images that I originally uploaded. I really appreciate the feedback and the concerns about its safety etc, but over all it’s a fun concept project, I’m glad that I made it and share it for free with the community.

Create. Don’t hate.

Love you all, happy printing!

Printed some biomimetic light switch covers (LSO Series)

Just finished printing the first batch of my new LSO (LightSwitchOne) light switch covers. All single-gang, no supports, standard toggle fit.

Textures so far:

  • Leaf
  • Root / Vine
  • Stone
  • Redwood (wood grain)

Printed in plain white PLA for now — planning to experiment with painting and different filaments next. They feel surprisingly nice on the wall.

What do you think? Any favorites or suggestions for future designs?

Files available on Printables, you can find the link in the comment section below.

Need help with printing a machine's door

Hi Everyone,

I just got my Flashforge adventure 5m delivered yesterday.

I am planning to print a door of a "Rotimatic" machine that broke due to heat and prolonged ab"use".

I know the dimensions and depth and other information.

What is the best way to design it. I checked youtube tutorials but am confused on how to model it correctly.

I would love to get your views on this and how would you approach it

thanks heaps!!

Seal your filament bags using... Filament.

The Filament Bag Sealer is a simple, reusable tool designed to securely reseal filament packaging and similar storage bags using approximately 30 cm of filament as the locking element.

This system is especially useful for users who work with filament refills and often reuse original packaging but lack spare empty spools. It allows leftover filament rolls to be stored safely back in their original bags, reducing moisture exposure and keeping materials organized without additional consumables.

Major Fire/Safety Hazard Identified with Creator 5 Pro

Elevated Maker Space has released a YouTube video documenting a VERY concerning fire/safety hazard with the Creator 5 Pro when using the chamber heater. Please be very careful folks!

See for yourself here:
https://youtu.be/cDyM2hfAGSU?is=POsAw8ZRWnVvB-xj

Even though this mainly affects just the Pro version, the overall flawed design of the purge process is still highly problematic, even for the base model. Please watch the entire video and you will see what I’m talking about as he explains everything. A special thank you to Elevated Maker Space for making this video and keeping us informed with honest feedback.

On a personal note, I really thought this was gonna be FlashForge’s chance to step up into the big leagues and deliver a great printer. But I guess I was wrong. Due to this, I have canceled my pre-order and will not be buying any more FlashForge products for the foreseeable future. The fact that their engineers didn’t foresee this as a problem and didn’t catch it in testing speaks volumes to the type of company that they are. Very disappointing as I was really looking forward to this printer, as I’m sure many of you were too.

S33D HALO Series — 5 Free Organic Fidget Spinners (No Supports)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a series of fidget spinners inspired by natural geometries. The goal was to create satisfying, well-balanced spinners that print cleanly with zero supports.

Introducing the HALO Collection:

  • Clean one-piece prints
  • Beautiful on the desk or in the hand

Each model explores a different expression of balance and flow — from dual-lobe to triangular to more complex forms.

Free Links (Printables):
HALO 01 → HALO 05
(Full collection page coming soon)

The next four designs (HALO 06–09) are available in a paid bundle on Gumroad for those who want the complete set.

Would love your feedback — especially on print quality, spin times, and any remix ideas. These are part of a larger S33D project focused on biomimicry and regenerative design (print → use → recycle → repeat).

Print one and let me know how it spins!
