Fan meeting at London (20/08)

Hello,

I (32,f) am a huge fan of AFI (favorite band) for more than 15 years. I'll see them for the first time of my life at London (20/08).

I'm french but as they’ll only play 40mn at Paris Festival, I have taken places at London with my bf (36,m) to see a full show at London.

I'll be pleased to meet and discuss with other AFI fan the 20th or after (we leave on the 22).

I'll also be present at Rock en Seine Festival, I'll also be pleased to meet some french fans here (the band isn’t very known here).

Cheers :)

Can’t wait for the show !!

Currently working out which lyric from my favourite AFI album to put on the gig shirt I'm making. Unfortunately for me that album happens to be Burials, so I'm looking forward to everyone thinking I'm going through the world's most aggressive breakup every time I wear it outside of that.

How and why?

I promise this post isn’t rage bait. I’ve only been listening to AFI for about 6 months. I am a middle aged punk enthusiast who feels like I found treasure when I discovered their earlier work (everything up to The Art). How I missed them initially is a long story and not interesting. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy everything prior to Sing The Sorrow. For most, everything from then on is peak AFI. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around what they put out the last 25 years. They are gifted artists and I don’t feel that’s even debatable. But, it’s almost like they turned on a dime and just, didn’t really sound like AFI anymore. Their most recent album is interesting to say the least. It couldn’t be further removed from what they sounded like in 1997 with the same members. I guess where I have difficulty understanding the transition is although I am much older than I was in 1997 I essentially love the same music. I’ve evolved. Gotten older. Became a more mellow and introspective person. But, fuck. Punk rock is just in my blood. Until I fall off this mortal coil. As a non musician, their last few albums kind of, I donno, feel atmospheric and meandering. Just curious about what others feel as they have been on my radar for such a short time.

Decemberunderground Vinyl Replacement via Wareanty Pro+

Wanted to provide an update since I’ve been on here in comments lately asking about Warranty Pro+. When I ordered my DU 20th Vinyl I opted in for the warranty randomly because it was like $2 extra.

Fast forward to my delivery and because their tracking Information never updated, my vinyl sat in my mailbox for at least 7 hours in 90-100°F heat. Of course it didnt play well after this so I filed a claim first via Sandbag and then through Warranty Pro+.

Two weeks went by and I never received as much as a confirmation that my claim had been received. And honestly, I expected the claim to be rejected anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️

A few days ago, to my surprise, I got a shipping notification email confirming a replacement was being mailed to me. It arrived today!

Just wanted to say that after I questioned here the legitimacy of the warranty add-on, it came through in my favor. Communication was poor (non existent really) but at the end of the day I’m glad I bought it.

The true meaning of Miss Murder

The 20th anniversary of AFI’s runaway hit “Miss Murder” landed on April 3, 2026, and the true meaning behind the lyrics has often been questioned by fans and critics. Vocalist Davey Havok was always purposefully vague when asked about it. He preferred to let fans keep any personal connections they made with the song by not revealing any specifics.

But in September 2025, Havok sat down with the HardLore podcast to make a monumental episode about AFI. Fitting, considering the band is hitting the road again on April 15. In the episode, he revealed more details about how “Miss Murder” came to be.

“That song was a grind,” he said. “Let’s talk about that lyric—we’ve never done this. The one song associated with AFI by civilians—the biggest one. If you listen to the lyric, that number-one hit basically poses the gentle question: ‘Should I just kill myself?’ And if I don’t … is s—t just going to get worse?”

Allegedly, “Miss Murder” started with a throwaway lyric from Havok that he intended to change later. But “Hey, Miss Murder, can I…” was an undeniable earworm. It came together during a difficult time for AFI. Due to their record label being sold to Universal Music Group, they found themselves shifted to Interscope. Then, their demos for the next record kept getting rejected by producer Butch Vig. It was only after they hunkered down with producer Jerry Finn instead that “Miss Murder” emerged.

AFI’s seventh album, Decemberunderground, was released on June 6, 2006, with “Miss Murder” as the lead single. That song pushed AFI to mainstream commercial success, but it also marked the end of that success.

“That was it,” Havok told HardLore. “That was the end of the commercial success.” AFI sold out their tour for Decemberunderground, and Havok shared that people were recognizing him on the street. But the mainstream audience quickly lost interest. “Within that year, it went from: ‘Oh my God, can I have your autograph? Can I have a photo?’ to ‘Oh wow. Hey man … what are you up to these days?’”

Havok continued, “I learned that mainstream people who listen exclusively to mainstream music think none of those artists write their songs. They think artists are always on tour. So if there’s not a song on the radio, and you’re not on tour, they think you must have another job.”

Essentially, AFI’s biggest commercial hit was crafted during a time of uncertainty and frustration for the band. With Havok’s longtime refusal to disclose any personal meaning in the lyrics, fans could associate it with their own experiences. But that also leads to its true context being overshadowed, even as it brings mainstream popularity.

DU Reprint

Are the grammatical errors on purpose regarding the lyric page?

Also if it’s covered before I missed it, what are the sub texts below the lyrics about?

Edit: I do like the subtle nods to other songs, albums
