Humidity support

Hair type: (if I were to guess) fine, wavy, medium density, long, virgin (unbleached and no heat)

Scalp: normal to oily

Issue I need help with : frizz in the rainy season, volume especially at roots

Issues I fixed: Greasy scalp, Dry ends

I'm happy with my hair. Sometimes it looks a lil flat at the roots and can use more volume there idk. But my main concern is the flyaways I get in monsoon. Please give me some advice. I have wavy hair.

Current hair routine

  1. Pre wash: 100% coconut oil on ends and mid length

  2. Shampoo: Wash twice a week with Dove Scalp+ shampoo.

  3. Conditioner: Pantene miracle rescue mask

  4. Spray 4-5 sprays of Pantene 10-in-1 spray

  5. Air dry (I don't have hair dryer)

Color Treated Hair Question - Couldn't find an answer with search

Hi all. Some of the products AY recommends don't specify that they are safe for color treated hair when reading the details of the product (ex. some of the Dove products). Do we think they are color safe even if it doesn't specifically say it? I know she says she colors her hair so I'm hoping it's safe to assume but at the same time I don't want to ruin my color.

For those with oily scalp/roots, but dry brittle ends, how long did it take for you to see results with the abbey yung method?

TLDR; I’m seeing small improvements in my scalp and roots, but still have dry mid lengths and brittle ends. Anyone with similar hair type or any knowledge at all that can give me any advice? Not sure if I need to maybe go for a heavier conditioner, hair oil or leave in conditioner to address my dry ends. Or maybe use clarifying shampoo less often. But don’t want to compromise my greasy roots either.

I’ve been doing the abbey yung method for about 5 weeks now. I definitely feel like my hair feels a little thicker, my waves/curls are much more defined, my roots last a little bit longer, my scalp is wayyyy less itchy and flaky. So I’m seeing improvements! But my ends still feel and look dry and brittle and I don’t have much improvement in the smoothness and shininess department either. I know 5 weeks isn’t too long, but I do feel like I should be seeing a little more improvement in my ends after being so consistent.

I heat style maybe once a week and I’ve been trying to let air dry as often as possible instead of blow dry. I used to wash my hair 1-2x a week, but since starting abbey yung I’ve been washing it 2-3x a week. I sleep in two braids with a silk bonnet and a silk pillowcase.

My hair is 2B (I think), thin, down to the bottom of my shoulder blade, I got a trim a couple weeks ago, and I haven’t colored my hair in three years although I did bleach it for about eight years before that.

My main concerns I’ve been trying to address are itchy scalp, greasy roots, dry brittle damaged ends, and hair loss and I’d like to get a few inches of growth and just overall smoothness and shininess and thicker healthier fuller hair.

The products I’ve slowly introduced over the last 5 weeks from the abbey yung method are:

-L’Oréal salicylic scalp serum (1x a week before wash)
-Pantene abundant and strong scalp serum (every night),
-OGX coconut oil mist (pre wash oil every wash 2-3x a week),
-Epres bond repair treatment (2x a week),
-L’Oréal ever pure clarifying shampoo (every wash as my first wash bc I’ve been trying all these new products and have hard water and an oily scalp, 2-3x a week),
-Neutrogena t sal shampoo (1x a week as my second wash),
-Pantene abundant and strong shampoo (1-2x a week as my second wash), L’Oréal bond repair treatment (1-2x a week as a post shampoo treatment),
-Dove intensive repair conditioning mask (every wash as my first condition)
-L’Oréal gycolic and gloss conditioner (every wash as my second condition)
-OGX bond repair heat protectant leave in spray (drench my hair in this after every wash)
-OGX bond repair oil mist (lightly on my ends after every wash, and before bed every night)

Getting out of the shower for K18

I recall Abby once said that you should get fully out of the shower while your k18 sits--but it makes me miserable! Getting out, freezing, then getting back in.

What do you guys do?

Aveda products in the method?

Hi! Does anyone know why she doesn’t discuss Aveda products?
I have been using them for decades! Took a break for a bit & got a terrible dye job that damaged my hair. So I found her method and have been using the products she recommended.
But thinking of going back to Aveda, the products just go really well with my hair type….
I wasn’t sure if there was a reason she didn’t include Aveda.

If anyone has good Aveda substitutions advice please lmk!

I was thinking Invati, Botanical Repair, the new all in one elixir, and nutriplenish? Keeping k18 in the mix. I really don’t like the glosses she recommends so I skip that. Elizavecca is awesome so keep that. I didn’t like Epres (but botanical repair is bond repair)….

Drugstore Anti Frizz Product Recommendations?

Hi everyone!

I recently moved to a new city and is INSANELY humid and the frizz in my hair has gotten completely out of control. I have fairly thin, fine, color treated hair.

Currently I’m using these products:
-L’oréal Elvive Glossing Shampoo
-Biolage Color Safe Conditioner
-L’oréal Evepure21 in 1 Leave in Spray
-Pantene Abundant and Strong Scalp Serum
-Olaplex no. 3 (once a week)

I have also tried the L’oréal Iron Sleek Spray which may have helped somewhat but I’d prefer not to use heat on my hair so often. Ideally I’d leak to find some sort of leave in serum that will help tame the frizz (without breaking the bank). Any drugstore recommendations?

My routine and products with the AYM for thin oily hair with dry ends m

I started the Abbey Yung Method at the end of March, and I started buying products little by little because I didn’t want to buy everything at once.

My first purchases were the OGX Coconut Oil, Pantene Volume Pure Shampoo and a Fructis normal shampoo for the second wash, Pantene Bond Repair Leave-In, and the OGX Bond Repair Heat Protectant. At the beginning, I was using Pantene Volume Pure together with a regular shampoo (Garnier Fructis), but honestly, I didn’t feel like the Garnier one was doing much for my hair, so once I finished that bottle, I decided to replace it with other shampoos. The volume pure is just wonderful!! It cleans so well and it actually ties volume because of this

My hair is very fine, has very low density, gets oily at the roots, but the ends are dry and damaged. It also sheds quite a lot, so my main goals were to improve the health of my hair, reduce breakage, and keep as much length and density as possible.

Even though the OGX Coconut Oil worked well as a pre-poo, I decided not to repurchase it and switched to pure coconut oil instead. For a pre-poo treatment, pure coconut oil makes more sense because it can penetrate the hair shaft and help protect the hair from damage during washing. The OGX product is more of a cosmetic oil, mainly for softness and shine. Pure coconut oil is also much cheaper and you get a lot more product. I apply it the night before washing my hair and put my hair in a bun while I sleep.

After that, I added the Pantene Bond Repair Mask, which I use instead of conditioner after every wash. I leave it on for about two minutes and rinse it out plus the leave in bond repair after the shower

I also decided to try the L’Oréal Glycolic Gloss Five Minute Lamination. I use it once a week instead of the Bond Repair Mask because I feel that using it too often could make my fine hair feel heavier.

Later, I added more products to complete my routine: the OGX Pro-Growth Peptide Shampoo, Pantene Grow Abundant Shampoo, Pantene Grow Abundant Serum, and the Pantene 7-in-1 Oil Spray.

My current routine is:

I alternate shampoos depending on what my hair needs. When I use Pantene Volume Pure, it is usually because I want a deeper, cleaner wash and more volume. On other wash days, I use either OGX Pro-Growth Peptide, Pantene Grow Abundant, or I combine shampoos depending on how my hair feels that day.

After every wash, I use the Pantene Bond Repair Mask for two minutes, except on the day I use the Glycolic Gloss.

When I get out of the shower, I apply the Pantene Bond Repair Leave-In and then the Pantene 7-in-1 Oil Spray, which is lightweight and works well for my fine hair and the Pantene growth abundant serum.

Before drying my hair, I apply the OGX Bond Repair Heat Protectant. For styling, I use a mousse to create waves with a blow dryer and diffuser, and I finish with a little hairspray to help the waves last and add some volume.

Overall, I have noticed quite a few changes. I still find some split ends, but definitely much fewer than before. My ends feel much less dry, my hair feels softer and easier to manage, and it looks much healthier than it did before. I have lots of baby hairs

I still think my hair has some damage, and I know it takes time because I only started this routine a few months ago and I have been adding products gradually. But I can definitely see and feel a difference already.

Any advice from people with similar hair concerns are welcome ;)

If you had all the funds, time, and energy/willpower in the world, how many of the steps would you do and how often?

I read lots of routines and advice here and it seems most of you are doing a bond repair like once a week? Abbey herself says that “protein overload” isn’t a real concern. So what’s the main reason most of you seem to only do bond repair once a week when she has like half a dozen bond repair steps? I know she says you don’t have to do all the steps but just curious, is your personal reasoning for doing less steps because that’s what actually what’s best for your hair or because lack of time, energy, or money?

Currently dealing with an incurable disease diagnosis so hyper fixating on my vanity as a distraction and dopamine boost lol. I have a lot of time on my hands right now and enough funds and willpower to do an 11 step hair routine every wash day BUT don’t want to do too much if it’s actually WORSE for my hair

Alternatives to OGX Miracle Oil for Thick/Coarse Hair?

I live in the Philippines and I can’t find any physical stores or malls that sell it. It’s also hard to find authentic resellers on Shopee, which is our Amazon equivalent. I badly need an alternative for it, please recommend some products 😭
