Help me pleaseeee!

This is a somewhat follow up post from when my alocasia was suffering a fair amount!! I’ve since separated the two suffering plants and put them in their own containers. I’d heard alocasias love semi hydro so I put 50% lava rock and 50% alocasia soil from Soil Ninja (containing Coco Coir, Vermiculite, Bark, Zeolite, Worm Castings and Biochar).

As you can see, they’re each doing much better, no longer part of the one leaf club and the bigger one has even sprouted a new leaf from a new corm. The issue is, you can see they’re still not 100% happy.

More context: I top up the water as needed, going visually on the water level from the lava rock reservoir. They’re on a north eastern windowsill in the UK. I put them in glass containers so I could actually see the roots this time!

Please help me, I love these plants so much and just want to care for them the way they need to be cared for!

Edited to add: the crispy leaves are the older leaves btw!

WTF is creeping around in the soil of my Alocasia cuprea Red Secret?

My cousin bought this alocasia for me 3 weeks ago. It was meant as a rescue because it looked so sad and damaged in the store (big plant center).

Today I wanted to water it and saw a tiny dark grey-ish worm crawling in the soil (on the right of the stem). I can also see (spider) webs in the holes in the uneven soil. WTF even is this? It's not even crawling like a worm but more like sliding up and down on a thread of the spider web.

It has lost 3 leaves since he bought it for me and now left with two. Kind of regretting trying to rescue it now.

Does anyone know what is it and how I get rid of it? Do It repot immediately? How do I protect my other plants? Will quarantining be enough?

First picture is of the soil now with the small grey worm thing (that looks like a little stick/branch of wood). Last picture is the alocasia when I first got it.

I'm a new plant mom and first time I see anything crawling in/on one of my plants so I'm freaking out.

P.S. English is not my native language so sorry if something isn't clear.

15€ im Baumarkt

Hallo zusammen,

Should I repot to semi hydro

I just got this Alocasia today and was wondering if I should repot with leca and moss inside a vase? It’s currently in soil and had two corms on the surface of the soil. The soil it’s in from the store, is hella peat moss no perlite or bark on it . Idk if I should repot to my soil mix or go with the semi hydro? What would you do/recommend?

Also super top heavy , it’s like leaning .

Should I put more soil in ?

I’ve noticed a lot of corms sprouting out the stem of my pink dragon, should I put more soil in to cover them ? Don’t want to cause stem rot by potting it deeper if it doesn’t need it

Pink black velvet leaves twisting

Is it normal for black velvet leaves (stems?) to twist and rotate in a clockwise direction? I noticed that this happens to my older leaves before they wither and die. New leaves come out straight but after a while they start turning. I want to know if this is any sign of me doing something wrong.

Too early to acclimate?

I have been working SO HARD on this jacklyn corm and am not sure when to work on acclimation. It had a larger leaf that died off recently. I have been giving it about 30 minutes of ambient humidity a day. Is it too early? Is there a better way? Or should I still keep it in the humidity dome?

Alocasia venom for $5 😱

Got lucky at one of my local grocery stores! There was a tag on it for $40 from the nursery, but the price tag wasn't working and clearly the staff doesn't know how much these are worth. 😁

Finally crossed it off my wishlist.

Alocasia bambinos

Are bambinos typically slow growers? I've had her since May, and she's only put out 2 leaves, and lost many more 🥲 the crispy edges are from fertilizer that needed to be flushed out, and I haven't had any issues since then, but she also hasn't done anything since. I have her in the grow queen aroid mix, and I fertilize once a month.

Should I switch up my fertilizer game?

I currently only use GT Foliage Focus. But I see so many others adding silica, cal meg, etc. etc. Is it necessary to use all those add ons or is what I’m doing enough?

Help…my dog ate the leaves of my Alocasia zebrina

Hello! My dog is ridiculous and decided to eat all the leaves off of my Alocasia zebrina. I plan to chop her back in hopes of her growing back okay….i am just not sure how far to cut her back. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Drunken Alocasia

Did a whoopsi.

Noticed one of my other plants started to get spider mites. I'd heard that alcohol would kill them instantly so I tried whipping them with a paper that had some rubbing alcohol. The next day I checked on them, all the leaves were below its pot. I did some more digging and realized I was supposed to dilute the alcohol with soap, water, and neem oil.

Pretty sad because this Watsoniana was my favorite Alocasia. I really like the way it glitters in light. Oh well. The damage is done, there is no going back in time.

The leaves now have risen from the dead seems like, but they are now hard, crispy, and a little discolored. My question is; Should I cut all the leaves down, and start over? Or maybe sprit some water on the leaves and maybe they will recover?

My new Alocasia Polly 🤩

Picked up this beautiful Alocasia Polly from Home Depot. It was the only one there. I gasped when I saw it haha. This is my first Alocasia and I’m hoping to repot it into some Mollys Aroid Mix and seperate out some of the pups. Any suggestions on the best way to do it and what/when to feed?

How to save an Alocasia ‘stem’ when your rhizome is mush - for beginners.

There is much inaccurate information out there about Alocasia. I have heard it said before that if your plant rots at soil level you have to throw it away. This is simply not true. As long can cut it off cleanly with no mush above the cut line and have multiple leaves above the cut it can be saved - even if you have to cut away all of what looks like viable rhizome.

My 6 leaf Infernalis (recently aquired plant in soil) decided to get ‘stem’ rot 🙄 at soil level - before I could transition it. I had to chop it off above the rot in order to try to save it - everything below the soil was complete mush (yay).

All I had left were 3 leaves and 1 possible growth point - after I had pulled off leaves 4, 5 and 6 - but of course there are more potential growth points beneath the 3 remaining leaves. I let the clean cut callous over for 24 hours, sprayed with diluted H2O2 then put in a vessel with the calloused cut edge slightly above the water line - but I wet the base of the cut several times a day until I had root nubs, then I raised the water line to cover the root nubs. I changed the water every few days and kept it topped up, 2 weeks later I have roots. Next this will go into Fluval for a few months and then into Semi Hydro…

Hope this helps.

Pink variegated black velvet

I just picked up this girl at my local plant shop! I was so shocked they had one! She was asking $80 for it but bc we are friends, she gave it to me for $60 and then with their discount I got it for $57 after tax. I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not but I love her and now I can check it off my wishlist!

My Boa Alocasia

Hello everyone. This boa pictured is looking healthy. A little bit of browning on the older leaf. No new growth right now. It’s in the same soil that I bought it in. It came from an organic gardening center here in South Austin (the natural gardener for you locals). Wondering about the brown spots and also if maybe now is a good time to repot? Since there’s no new growth, thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Alocasia Pink Polly Snowflake dying?

I have had my Alocasia for several months now and it has been pretty happy until recently.

When I first noticed the plant looking unwell I repotted to a dryer chunky mix and checked the roots to make sure there isn't root rot, the roots are very healthy and I was able to gather several corms. I did a diluted peroxide dip aswell.

I water just before it dries up (usually every 2 weeks) and have been fertilizing maybe once a month with weak diluted Shultz 10-15-10 since the weather had warmed up and was giving some new growth. I did fertilize recently and had moved it's location to my bedroom under a grow light, I noticed one leaf yellowing and cut it off before it had been moved.

I am worried I may have given my plants chemical burns or it is rotting, any advice is appreciated although I don't know if it will bounce back at this point ;( I have hope my corms will do well!
