My Boa Alocasia

Hello everyone. This boa pictured is looking healthy. A little bit of browning on the older leaf. No new growth right now. It’s in the same soil that I bought it in. It came from an organic gardening center here in South Austin (the natural gardener for you locals). Wondering about the brown spots and also if maybe now is a good time to repot? Since there’s no new growth, thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Jimmy Page Emulating Jeff Beck

I was listening to The Lemon Song and was struck how Jimmy was really mimicking Jeff throughout. I don't mean to insinuate Jimmy was ripping Jeff off but both Truth and Beck Ola by the JBG both preceded Led Zep by a year.

Metal Yard Art Sources?

Hi all. I am turning my front lawn area into a mulched area. I do not have too much sun or in-ground plant area due to a very large (and beloved) crepe myrtle. I am looking for a source for interesting yard art to add a bit of interest and whimsy to the space. I am in SW Austin (Oak Hill). Anyone know of some shopping options for something like this I can peruse? I am a regular at The Natural Gardener and they have some options but looking for more variety and maybe a bit less $$$. Would like to see stuff in person but on line if fine as well.

12 gauge Extension Cord

Bought a 12 gauge extension cord from Harbor Freight yesterday on sale for $27.99. 50 foot. I think that’s a pretty insane deal.

My Apologies M’Lady!

I was piddling around in my backyard garden. Taking care of my Mexican honeysuckle and accidentally bumped into her. I hope she forgives me.

Attack of the killer tomatoes!

Been harvesting for a couple of weeks now. But now it’s really hitting! I just told my wife for every one that I bring inside, we need to eat two from the island!

Optimizing my speed

Hello all. I am not a super geek but I do have basic understandings of internet speed and capabilities of various end points. I have the 1GB plan. Of course on my iPhone 17S, using the G Fiber app, my speed is as good as it gets. Just read 1201 down and 1245 up on the app. My computer card is a 1gbps card. However, when I just hardwired from the router to the computer at best I am getting 256 down and 135 up. I understand there are variables but wondering if any smart folks out there can give a take on a) the disparity of the speed of the app (router) to the speed on the wired computer and b) the disparity of the down vs the up on the wired computer. Thinking they should be closer in value. I am using cat 6 cable fwiw. Just trying to optimize it all. Thanks!

I am encouraged

This is my boa which I have had for about three months. It lost its original leaf naturally, and then this last one got attacked by thrips. I had treated it a couple/few times with an alcohol/water/dab of soap solution spray. Now it is shooting up a new stem! Hooray! Been wanting to repot, but think I’ll let it go as it seems healthy and I don’t wanna trip it up.

Jazz Sabbath

I am a fan of most genres of music...with few exceptions. I think y'all may get a kick out of these guys. Very jazzy renditions of Black Sabbath standards. Piano driven, very tight and a lot of fun. There interpretations of these songs are impressive. They have a fun back story too. Seem to have a great sense of humor. Here is their take on "Iron Man"

“Squishy” Spent Stem Question

I have a boa that originally had one stock and shot up new growth. The original stock slowly withered and finally needed to be cut. When I cut the old stock, it was very “squishy“. The new air stock seems to be fine. It is in the same soil substrate I bought it in from an organic gardening center here in Austin. I water it about once a week. Should there be any concern. I will defer to the experts here. Thank you!

The Switch Smash

Two patties of ground brisket and short rib. On a great roll. $$18.50. It was a good choice. Large dill pickle chip for scale as I did not have a banana.😆

EDIT: Next time I will bring a tape measure for the size conscience folks

Water blocks for Alocasias?

My daughters bought my wife a huge bouquet which have finally died and when I was composting the greens, these blocks were in the bottom of the basket that held the flowers. They are still kind of moist. And the stalks of the flowers were stuck into them. Is there any reason to keep these and use them for ????

How do you use playlists?

I have been on Amazon Music many years now. I originally created a playlist for all my favorite artists and their music. Then I’ve created a couple of other playlist of random genres (jazz. Progressive rock. Jazz rock. Classical. Ambient and without him more). Sometimes I listen to Amazon Music generated playlists, but most time I just pick my own and play them. Just wondering what y’all do?

Finally got to go yesterday for lunch with my daughter and her friend. The place have their act together and the food was awesome. Not the cheapest place in town for sure, but it was fantastic. Service tip top too!
