Trying to figure out why I dont always get the buttons on the left - sometimes it's the icons on the right and I cannot change it. My car just picks one randomly when it starts.

Am I the last person w/o Gemini?

Title says it all.

Everything I’m reading makes it sound like this is the case. I’m in the AA beta, but maybe my Pixel 9 Pro XL is too old.

My main account is a Google workspace account; I’ve checked the admin console settings from advice provided by … wait for it… Gemini.

I also have a secondary GMail account I use for Google Home stuff, also on the phone.

Any solution or workaround for Pixel 10 Pro XL not connecting?

Apologies as I know the pixel 10 not connecting has been discussed a lot based on what I found when searching the sub but I never found a solution, does anyone know if one exists? My pixel 9 worked just fine but pixel 10 won't even connect for the first time to Android auto because Android auto doesn't detect the phone when hooked up, even though the system detects a phone is hooked up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Anyone else Android Auto randomly shut out Google Maps for some reason?

Refuses to work normally for some reason and this has happened a number of times in recent weeks.

On a Samsung Galaxy S24 with the apps up to date.

It was also defaulting to Waze randomly a bit ago but I removed Waze from the auto settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is there a way to make Gemini less verbose?

Sometimes I ask for simple things like the working hours for a specific place and Gemini replies followed by a question like "do you want me to set the route for that location in Waze?" and I'm like "no thanks go away" most of the time, or if I ask him about the weather then I have to hear a long answer about so many details when I just wanted to know "IS IT GOING TO RAIN, YES OR NO AND WHEN??", so the title question: Is there a way to make it less verbose? I don't remember Google Assistant being that annoying honestly, I know it was way less capable but it used to run faster and answer straightforward what I asked.

Notifications are silent when connected to android auto

I don't like to have my messages or other notifications pop up on my car's screen. i dont want the distractions. but i DO want to hear that i got a txt, and since i have different sounds for different people that send me txts, i can usually hear WHO i get a text from, so i know if i have to stop and address it or ignore it.

im not sure when it started, but i currently do not get any sound from my phone when im connected to android auto. i tested it out this am and not only do i not get a sound, i dont get any of the other notification items. no bubble at the top of the screen, no edge colors, no sound.... just the notification icon.

am i stuck with this functionality unless i turn on the message notifications on android auto itself? if so, thats pretty stupid.

New to Android Auto, playing iPod (mp3) music

Frustrated middle aged lady trying to play her iPod music in her new Lexus RX350. In my old Chevy Equinox, I simply plugged my iPod Nano into the USB and voila I had music. That's not an option on my Lexus RX350 as it doesn't recognize the iPod via the USB.

I have tried connecting my iPod via an AirFly SE bluetooth device but the bluetooth keeps dropping out. The music was fine when it worked but that was only for about 10-15 seconds at a time.

Now I'm thinking I'll have to transfer my mp3s directly to my phone and play my music via Android Auto. However, I've never used my phone for music and have no clue on what's the best app, how to set it up, etc.

I like very simple - set it and forget it. And I'm not enthused about possibly having to connect my phone via USB every time I get in the car.

Any suggestions on the best way to listen to my music?

RESOLUTION: I have copied my mp3 files to my phone and am playing them with the Musicolet app via Android Auto. This will do for now while I explore other options like streaming. Thanks for all the help.

AA developer mode

If you go into Android Auto, settings, version, click 10 times. It opens development mode. (No different than Android developer mode entry)

Scroll down to "unknown sources " click it if you wish. Understand that you can hurt your phone or AA system.

Then you can sideload apps. I'm going to try Torque and see if it works. Hopefully i can finally get my gauges.

Also in there is changing screen resolution. To have crisper icons and such.

I haven't seen development mode posted here. So I figured I'd add it.

Managing scheduled DND while driving

I've set up a scheduled mode on my Pixel 9 / Android 16 called "sleeping" that mutes everything on my phone from 9pm to 7am. Occasionally I'm driving when 9pm rolls around and whatever I'm listening to is muted. I can pull out my phone and fiddle with the dropdown to disable it, but I'd like a safer fix so I don't have to use my phone while driving. Things I'm thinking:

  1. Can the scheduled sleeping mode not activate if it knows I'm driving?

  2. Can I create a button shortcut on the AA menu to turn off sleeping mode so it'd be easy to undo it at 9pm? I tried an "assistant action" but my prompt to "turn off sleeping mode" was met with a "I don't understand" from AA. If there's some magic words I need to use here I'd appreciate the guidance.

I also tried adding AA to the list of excluded apps from the Sleeping mode but that didn't help.

If it matters, the primary app I would be using in AA is Spotify.

Thanks!

Android Auto Having Difficulty Displaying Music Tracks

It seems like Android Auto is having issues loading my music tracks from Samsung Music. It can load things like 'Most Played', 'Recently Played' and individual playlists, but when I try to load tracks, it spins. It spun for my entire 3 hour trip but continued playing my music without issue.

Music APKs that work with Android Auto

Anyone have an audio/music APKs that actually display on the AA interface, or a workaround? I'm about to take a road trip, so I need the GPS. In order to actually control the music from my APK, I have to switch to Bluetooth, which sucks.

I'm currently using Morphe YouTube Music. I've used Morphe Spotify before, but that doesn't work either.

Any help is appreciated.

Discharging enen when charging.... 🤔

2018 BMW 420i | Droiduk MMI | PIXEL 10 Pro XL | Android 16

How can my Phone use so much power even when wireless charging? The first screenshot is whilst wirelessly charging, yet still using 10w of power.

Google seriously need to optimise the efficiency of Android Auto, and deal with the overheating issues of the P10.

On-screen Play/Pause No Longer Working

Using the most recent beta available to me, the Play and Pause button doesn't work for any of the audio apps I use (Apple Music, SXM, YT Music).

Additionally, I no longer have the 30 sec back/forward buttons or the slider to go through live content on SXM (which wouldn't be a problem if the app would remember where I pause anything I'm listening to)

My Amazon Music on Android Auto is finally working correctly

That's it really. It'll probably last until they update it again and break it. But I'm able to touch on the screen a playlist or a song or whatever and it actually plays. If I'm doing a playlist or album, it continues playing and keeps going through the queue/ tracklist. If I ask for a mix of music or a specific song using Google Assistant, it actually does the right thing and starts playing something that I asked to hear. Not sure which update it started with but it's been at least a year since it's worked properly like this. Thrilled to have it working but waiting for them to drop the ball again. Fingers crossed whatever they fixed in the most recent update stays fixed when they inevitably break another aspect of the program. I am using a Pixel 9a by the way.

I just got an ADVERTISEMENT while navigating in Google Maps in Android Auto, and I'm MAD.

Navigating to a grocery store here in NYC. While half a mile away from there, the left half of the Google Maps screen is overtaken by a modal window, where it says: "Navigate to Walgreens? (Promoted)", or something like that. It suggested to add a stop to a Walgreens in the way, and showing how the route would look with that stop. This would not go away until I tapped on "No".

Who would ever think this is a good idea? FFS.

Sorry I couldn't safely stop to get a screenshot / pic of it... There are articles around about similar "features" where a popup appears in the bottom, but I gotta say that my experience was much more intrusive than those.

Android auto sometimes doesn't open fully

So have had the car for over a year, and sometimes it connects perfectly fine via a cable (turned off wireless because of interference in my area) and other times the infotainment fails to open it (even by clicking the auto icon on the screen), while it shows connected on my phone, I can force it to open via the local settings under Bluetooth and clicking the android auto icon there but then I renders with half the screen and fails to have any audio output.

My dealership keeps saying it's my device and not the vehicle but never had this issue with my previous car, and other omoda brands from Chery have this issue I've seen online. Is there anything I can check of the head unit is running an older version maybe?

It doesn't always happen so very difficult to reproduce but when it does I have to soft restart the infotainment by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

If there is a way to debug it as well that would be great

Me: "Navigate to Mom" Gemini: *lists businesses on-screen w/ names starting w/ 'Mom' within 100 miles*

It did it twice after I figured the first time had to be a glitch.

There's only one "Mom" listed exactly and only as "Mom" in my contacts and none are these useless businesses that are nowhere even near me.

It feels like AI is utterly stupid on purpose sometimes with the most basic of commands.

Anyway, just had to share my frustration somewhere. I've already sent feedback through AA settings, but that wasn't cathartic enough.

How can you change the "Android Auto Gemini" system prompt?

Every response ends in a dumb question or follow up. I'm ok with a response bluntly ending so I want to edit the user system prompt to update that.
