Why do every anime have a hot spring/ beach ep

I come to realize over 20+ years of watching anime they have a hot spring / beach ep and when i was younger i didn’t mind them but im 27 now and come to realize these sort of episodes dont push the story forward and it always the same trope.

The guy get his own bath and some how ends up seeing something they wasn’t supposed to see
It more of a rhetorical question, but if there’s an answer to it, I would like one

Sub vs Dub

SUB is better than DUB BUT you can watch however you want.

SUB watchers insist on DUB watchers to switch because SUB watchers know how much better it is.

BUT if you just can't OR don't want to watch SUB, then go ahead, watch DUB.

BUT don't clown on SUB watchers because SUB is better.

Also SUB watchers clown on DUB watchers too, which is wrong but it is also granted.

Personally, DUB watchers clowning on SUB watchers is the same as how Non-anime watchers used to and still clown Anime watchers.

My attention span for not great anime has dropped

I've now reached the point where unless a show is really good, I'll get bored or at least it'll take me ages to finish.

I kinda need a really good story and characters now to make me excited to watch through something.

I used to be able to binge stuff, but watching stuff like One Punch Man Season 3 is taking me ages as its so boring.

Even some pretty decent shows like Trigun Stargaze are struggling to grab my attention. I need a stronger, emotional, intellectual, or entertainment hook these days

Missing Translations Are The Worst

Who else here gets infuriated when an anime has on-screen text but no translation for it in either the subbed or dubbed version? I am attempting to watch "I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too," but the first episode has text boxes popping up, which are clearly relevant to the MC's understanding of the alternate world; however, they are only shown in their original Japanese script. no translations at all, even in the subbed version, so if you can't read that, you are just screwed...

This happens on occasion in some anime where the translators don't consider the importance or relevance of displayed writing compared to the standard dialogue.

In the end, viewers like me have no choice but to take a screenshot of the scene and ask Google to translate it. I know this is not a huge deal, but each time it infuriates me.. Maybe one day I'll learn Japanese.

Is mainstream killing anime creativity? Help me out with my thesis! (5 min survey)

Hey everyone!

I'm a master's student working on my thesis about something I think a lot of you have opinions on: does mainstream popularity hurt creativity in the otaku/weeb community?

Think about it — when anime blows up on Netflix or TikTok, does it change the kind of content that gets made? Does it water down the culture?

I'd love to hear from real fans. The survey is anonymous and takes under 10 minutes

Every response genuinely helps thanks so much!

*(Mods: let me know if this doesn't fit the sub, happy to adjust!)*

What is Jijitsu Kaisen about?

So every irl person I know is going crazy over this jijitsu kaisen, but I however, do not see the appeal at all. I tried to watch the show several times and couldn't stomach it. Is there something I'm missing? Precisely what exactly is jijitsu kaisen about? I don't understand what the story like revolves around? What characters do poeple like? I hate all of these little bricks! (except Gojo)

I don't care about spoilers, just explain what the idea is. It's making me mad. I got spoiled a lot of breaking bad and (though I wish I went in blind) the little details I heard about hooked me and I didn't mind knowing a little about the future so long as I knew like what the main idea of the show is. Thank you.

OK so apparently people don't god damn understand what I meant. I meant THEMATICALLY. not LITERLLY what happens in the god damn show.

Definition of Glazing

Had this conversation with 2 friends of mine. The first one said that "glazing" is only when you are wrongfully complimenting a show or a character, while the other said that "glazing" is when you talk very good of it, regardless of it being true or not.

For example, following the logic of the first friend, saying that Satoru Gojo from jjk is one of the strongest sorcerers(I don't wanna start a war by saying he is the strongest) isn't glazing, because that's true and confirmed in the manga/anime, while my second friend would say that it is still glazing.

So I wanted to hear someone else's opinion. What truly can be considered "glazing"?

I hate fan service

As the title says I hate fan service not because I find it distasteful (sometimes it is) it's mainly because it's distracting. if I'm seriously trying to watch a show but I can't concentrate because my eyes keep wandering to somewhere else( the overly revealing outfits) for example take rezero I love rezero it's literally one of my top animes from the writing to the themes ect but in this new season I'm looking at shaula and I can't concentrate every time she's in screen. This was just something I always thought about, nothing major maybe it's just a skill issue.

Modern Mages Dilemma

Why do I see every once in a while that people think Aerial and Naval Mages would be inferior in today’s world? Honestly it has no foundation because they compare essentially a 1920’s and 1930’s fighter plane to a modern Fighter Jet. Do they not think a Mage’s fight capabilities would not improve as well?

One Piece should I swap to sub.

I started watching one piece roughly 2 weeks ago and in that time have done a decently heavy binge so I am now finished Skypiea. So no spoilers past that please. I've been watching in dub however the only person I know who is caught up on the show insists that I should watch sub. Should I swap or continue as is.

I have no problem watching sub and have done so for many anime but I don't know if there's any need to change here since I'm enjoying it in dub. A swap seems unnecessary.

Anime hot take

Hot take: Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the best shonen of all time. The arcs are so good, it has great characters who each go through a ton of development, the worldbuilding is excellent, the fights are amazing, and it also has in my opinion the best power system in all of anime.

Why do anime fans) think a one sided crush is better and more likely to form a romance than two people who are good friends?

I have never understood the notion that "one sided is better than zero sided". Personally, I think ships where both sides have no romantic feelings yet but are good friends and have an emotional bond are better than the ones with a one sided crush and realistically more likely to be together.

I think ships like Naruto and Hinata and Goku and Chichi wouldn't work in real life.

I've been converted to Sub from Dub.

So I've almost always been a Dub only sorta person. My mindset was that if I had to constantly be reading the subtitles I'd miss out on everything else going on, whereas with Dub I'd be able to just listen and still pay attention to everything.
Recently though I've watched Youjo Senki or The Saga of Tanya the Evil, and unfortunately the OVA and Movie aren't Dubbed. So because I was really enjoying the anime, I decided to give Subbed a chance, and boy did my expectations get blown away. I'd still say at the beginning it had a bit of that problem where I wasnt paying attention to the screen and was maybe missing some stuff, but as I continued watching it got easier and easier for me to multitask with it.
Overall I think that I'll still probably do Dubbed most of the time if the anime has one, but if the Dub just sucks or if the anime is only Subbed, I'll absolutely still be sinking my teeth into it. This also really helps for new anime or new seasons coming out, so I can watch them when most people are rather than waiting another one to two weeks.

Question about how kenshiro view shin and their relationship

Why did Kenshiro continue to feel that Shin was his friend even after he betrayed him? Could it be that they were maybe more than just friends, like maybe first cousins who had close childhood ties, for instance?

Does So I'm A Spider, So What? Ever get better?

I'm not really that much of an anime person, I get annoyed with overused tropes pretty quickly. So I decided to watch a few episodes of the spider show. I love Kumoko, her design and personality are very cute. But I fucking HATE the parallel storyline. I honestly can't bring myself to give a shit about her classmates. Literally every single one of them are an anime stereotype/trope that I hateee. I don't know if it's supposed to be satire or not, or if I'm actually supposed to not like them. Anyway I'm only on the episode where they killed the earth dragon during the magic practice thing. I need to know, does it get better or should I pull out before I waste more time on it?
