Worlds First MagnaMax woodworking tools. Just finished my first hand plane Iron batch!

Been working towards making MagnaMax tools for the past couple months . This metal came to market in May of this year. Made by the same metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas that made Magnacut. Similar qualities as Magnacut except it has been tested to have 40% longer edge retention , and has slightly less toughness. I think magnamaxs properties are better suited to woodworking tools than magnacut is. These irons are made to 64 HRC because that's the maximum hardness MagnaMax can have while still maintaining high toughness . I wrote a little article explaining my choices in more detail with references to Dr. Larrin Thomas's page . https://www.robertsfinetools.com/steel
Also wrote about the benefits of small batch heat treating and plate quenching over industrial gas quenches . Excited to finish these. 😁

First Batch of modern replacement blades finished

Cryogenically treated plate quenched A2 hardened to 62 HRC, hand sharpened. 1/8 inch thick and 2 inch's wide . A bit over 7 and 1/32 inchs in length.

Tested fitted on number 4 and 5 lie Nielsen and wood river planes . I bet these would fit other brands, if anyone knows which I'd appreciate it. https://www.robertsfinetools.com

MINT NOS - Stanley Yankee Screwdriver 68-131, 17" with 3 bits - $120

Stanley spiral ratcheting screwdriver with bits.

This is New Old Stock, still sealed in its original packaging.

Has not been touched since the factory. No rust, this is in MINT condition! Nary a fingerprint. Original price tag still on the package!

The bits are included, but they can be hard to see since they are in their own separate package.

See photos for the factory seal, which looks like a horizontal bar with stamped vertical lines.

I have given it a light cleaning. Packaging has dark spots, which I believe can be removed with careful cleaning.

Story: I found this at a legit country store. It is run by an elderly woman who has health problems and can only open the store occasionally. I have not been able to find this store open for the last 2 years, and I jammed on the brakes when I saw the open sign. She abruptly closed the store right after I paid.

She has a ton of new old stock going back to the 1990s. I also got a Stanley tri-square and some chisels, which were packed in the same style as this screwdriver. She said it's probably been hanging there this whole time. The photos include how I found it in situ. When I took it to the counter, she said, "Oh, that's the 1990s price..." so the price you see is less than I paid.

I originally got this because I thought it was laughably long, compared to the 130a I already have. I thought I could take it out, give it a few twists, and put it back in the package and hang it with my hand planes. I didn't realize until I got home that it was sealed in the package. I can't take it out without destroying the one thing that makes this unique. I have it hanging around, and if I keep it, I don't know if I can resist the temptation to take it out. So it's here, and hopefully it will go to someone who will highly value its sealed condition.

I take PayPal
For you guys, I'll pay for shipping within the CONUS via USPS.
